Piano accompaniment
« on: May 15, 2005, 11:06:46 PM »
I'm learning Jazz with a teacher, however I find that I'm not that interested in Jazz music.  The reason why I decided to learn Jazz
was because I wanted to learn piano accompaniment stuffs, so I thought
learning Jazz will help me in improving my piano accompaniment technique since classical music is more dependent on sheet music.
I'm interested in improvisation but I don't like "jazzy" music.   My teacher
taught me to play blues and all the color chords, however I lack interest
in these stuffs.  Actually I'm more interested in learning New Age style and
other piano accompaniment styles.  Do you think learning jazz music will
help in piano accompaniment pattern?  I've been thinking over this question and sometimes I think these two are different issues and I should
find another teacher who teaches piano accompaniment instead of learning Jazz.  Can anyone please advise me.  Thanks!

i would say yes! learn it all, no way around it!  but if where youre playing at isnt conducient for that style of playing, then move on until youre in that setting!

all contemparary music of today is nothing but straight up jazz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you will need it, and not because of what you play, but because of how you play it, and when! this is called approach, and that is music in a nutshell!
gieres.....

god is greatly to be praised!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Aljeres!

Is gospel music a form of Jazz music or it's just a music style?
