New Choir Director????
« on: June 19, 2005, 09:14:10 AM »
Hello Musicians

I'm the new choir director for the youth in my church, for the first day things looked good. I just have a few questions to ask.  Ok when trying to listen for voices in a song, Soprano, Alto, Tenors, And sometmes Baratone are the primary notes the voices, for example, if a song is sung in the key of CM Are the 1-3-5 the notes the voices are moe likely to start on. Tenors being 1 Altos being 3 and Sap being 5 , I'm not sure about baratone is it the seventh? Cause you won't always have sheet music with you, so you would have to listen for the right voices , I definelty don't want to give the wrong voices. feel free to give me your inputs. Thanks

If by baritone you mean bass, then  . . .

Some people use the bass with the same melody as the sopranos only one octave lower. You might want to try this, especially if you have good altos and tenors.

Actually, you might want to consider 3-5-1.  Giving the 1 to the tenors means you're giving the MELODY to the tenors and that usually doesn't happen.
