How do you play ghost notes?  I am having trouble figuring out how to mute the strings and give it that percussive sound.  Any tips...

I am primarily a guitarist so this may not be the best anwer.  But when playing ghost notes, I'll use enough pressue with my fretting hand as to not hold the string down.  It's basicaly the same way I play scrateches on guitar.  Just use enough pressure to dampen the string and not let the note ring through.

Yea. That's how I do them too. I'm not that good at doing the other type, which you do by slapping your left hand on the strings.

...just press your finger on a note on the neck....then back off of the pressure a little so you are touching the string enough to stop it from sounding the note...but not letting your hand leave the string...

try this exersize...

all 1/8 notes

A on the low E string

play  2 A notes (very short!) then 6 percussive ghost notes on the same A position..all 1/8 notes!

l A A //  //  // l A A // // // l

 :D

Thanks everyone for your explanation of ghost notes.  I am practicing the ghost notes with Uriah's pattern.  It helped.   :D See ya...gotta go practice!  I don't want to hear the whipping sound.
