Hope you've got a good powerwinder  . Seriously, that looks mean.  What note is the lowest string? And what gauge does it take?

The lowest note is F#, highest is F. I haven't gotten the bass yet, but it should be mediums on there. I may switch it to lights, depending on how easy it is to play.

My hands are actually getting pretty strong, since I've been doing a lot of exercises. I haven't really practiced any songs, just exercises. They're actually starting to get fun, since I'm seeing a lot of improvement. Now, I can span 6 frets, easily, in the middle of my 5 string and barely make at the top, toward the nut. Eventually, I'm going to get some drum rudiment books and videos, so I can learn some patterns for my improvising.

Wow!  When I think of 8-string basses, I usualy think of something with 4 pairs of strings tuned in octaves (like a 12-string guitar).  F# below B is way low...just tune down a whole step and you are an octave below a standard 4-string.  What kind of speakers are you using?  It would be a shame to have that kind of potential only to be let down by speakers that can't handle those frequencies.

Well....

I'm still eyeing my speaker set. I'm thinking about getting a 4x10, and 15" SWR set, with a GK Head, like a friend of mine. I don't know yet. Right now though, I'm only going through a Peavey Basic 112.

What excercises are your doing to get a greater span.  I have rather large hands and Towards the top of my base I am struggling.

Using these fingers, 1-2, 3-4, 1-3, 1-4, 2-4, I just make them reach for larger intervals. It helped a little that my left hand was stretched a little already, because I play piano.

It's all good though. I'm learning, when I decide to upgrade, I'll most likely ebay this one away.

I still can't wait to get it. Being in Korea sucks sometimes.

Don't this ths the wrong way B3Wannabe but i thought 8 string basss were mainly used by bass virtuosos but if you have the spare cash man it'll be a cool axe to dedicate your life to mastering.

Why would you need to be a virtuoso to get an 8 string? That's like saying you have to play 49 or 61 keys before you can play 88 on a piano.

Don't worry though. I have tough skin. I didn't take it the wrong way. From what I've seen, so far, playing a 4 is different that playing a 5, so I'm expecting the same thing with an 8. I'll have to learn how playing it differs from playing my 5 string. I can only imagine what it'll take to mute the dern thing! I'm a fast learner though.  :D

Tackling any bass over the standard 4 is a pretty large undertaking. The transition from 4 to 5 is hard enough, but from 5 to 8 will be exponential. You can be a sheer master with a 4 string and look like a fool holding 6. If you play a 4 string now go out and try a 7 string, nothing seems right at that point because your fingers are lost especially if you play without looking half the time like I do. I don't care how good anyone is, that type of leap will take time to get used to. Proper technique is a MUST with any extended bass, because if you don't mute well you're gonna have a hard time keeping it quiet from all the sympathetic ringing and it will sound like a hot mess.
I don't play bass, my bass plays me.

Yea. I know I was ringing all over the place when I first got my 5 string. The 4-string was pretty easy to mute. That's one reason why I'm getting one now, so I can learn the differences before my fingers get too used to playing a 5 string. Already, when I play a 4, especially after playing my 5 for a couple months straight, my 4 seems impotent.  8O , because I can do some things easier on my 5-string than on my 4. I'm sure the 8 will be the same. I'll learn some new patterns that'll only work good on the 8, not to mention chords.

I know I'll have some stumbling blocks, but since I believe that God has given me the gift to play any instrument that I want, as long as I do it for him, I don't expect it to be really bad. I know I'll learn it quickly. Like I said before, I'm expecting big things this year...just keep watching the videos.

Remember B3 what the mind can receive the body can acheive it's all a mind thing if you think it's gonna be hard then it will you know where the notes start from F# and on so man it's own like neck bones brother and it will not take long to master that bass brother the only way it would be harder is if it was fretless and believe me God will handle the parts you have a problem with its not going to be that hard unless you make it that hard man what people say is just motivation B3 do your thing man,you handle yourself well with other basses I saw the clips so youll be ok God will step in  :D
