I TOOK CLASSICAL LESSONS FROM 7 TO 13, THEN GOSPEL FROM 14 TO 17, HATED CLASSICAL SO I HARDLY PRACTICED, THE GOSPEL LESSIONS WERE COOL...THEN I LEARNED THEORY FROM READING THEORY AND JAZZ BOOKS. STARTED PLAYING IN CHURCH WHEN I WAS 17, WASN'T VERY GOOD AT IT. FOUND MY NICHE AT 21...ABLE TO PLAY ANYTHING I WANT, CAN READ NOTES, BUT RUSTY, IT'S QUICKER TO HEAR IT AND PLAY IT, BUT I HAD THEORY AND LESSONS, SO IT COMES MUCH QUICKER TO ME. I'M LEFT HANDED SO CHORDING WITH MY LEFT COMES QUITE EASILY TO ME. PRIMARILY AN ORGANIST. HAVE 3 SYNTHESIZERS. CHURCH MUSICIAN THAT LIKES JAZZ FUSION AS WELL AS GOSPEL.

BEING ADVANCED TO ME IS BEING ABLE TO ADJUST TO WHATEVER SETTING AROUND YOU AND ADJUST ACCORDINGLY. MORE THAN TECHINQUE ON THE KEYS, IT'S IN THE MIND TOO, FROM PLAYING THE PEICE CORRECTLY TO BEING ON TIME AND DRESS CODE FOR THE OCCAISON  , BUT THAT'S JUST ME.

I consider myself to be intermediate.  I can almost read thru a simple 4-part hymn, but I play by ear (if I want the chords to a song, I can listen to the song a couple of times and then block it out on the keys).  I know a little theory, so from a theory point of view, I can understand your postings and Hammondman's - or at least go to the piano and work them out.  I don't consider myself a "good" player.  Also, I am an organist and play pedals.  I started with organ lessons as a kid and like a non-weighted non-impact fast keyboard like I have on my synths and Hammond.

I agree with Hammondman with his definition of being advance.  I"ll say it like this, I believe an advance organist, pianist should be able to back up a preacher then switch around and play Handels Messiah.        Personally I believe I'm an intermediatye musician, I grew up in a church that was strong in classical music now I play organ at a Full Gospel church and I'm learning the style and I'm determined. Hammondman you have a lot of synthesizers  :D .
