It depends...

For me, if you're someone I know, I might do it for free! 8O

But I have charged between $50-100 for a 4-6 track demo.

It depends what kinda music yur doin'.  If yur doin' anything that takes alot of time then don't be afraid to charge.  I stay in Dallas and around here you can charge from $75 - $300.  If it's a basic beat, not that many instruments then charge $75 if it's just drums, bass, guitar and keys.  also per day depending on were you live you got to be able to live off of it.  Example, if takes you 5 hrs. to finish a production then you want to make a least $100 cause it took you half a day to do a song (pending you have your technique down on the sequencer or the recorder or what ever you use.  For christian artist this is fair.

Its all about 2 things.

  1.) your skill level
 2.) your location, or rather the location of the buyer.

Dont be afraid to charge what your worth  . The Neptunes charge over $1,000,000 dollars PER SONG :!:  Its not all about how many hours or minutes you clocked making the beat its all about your skill and how it sounds in the end.

Secondly, My hometown is about 30,000 people small and you cant expect to get $600 for a song. So your faced with a dillema. Either hold on to your song because you know its worth more, or sell it because you need the money.

So the moral is, 1. Know what your worth. 2. You have to know where to market your song.

(hmm I should be a cinsultant lol)
