Need somethin' new
« on: September 23, 2005, 12:59:52 PM »
What are the hottest songs out now that you guys are practicing or playing?  I'm kinda in a rut and need something new.  I do way too much theory studying and not enough actual playing.  I need to work on my groove a little more.

By the way, I've been working on that practice schedule I posted a week or so ago...the slapping is coming along.  I think it's really rounding out my playing abilities.

Have you tried to switch styles. Try a song called "Trading My Sarrows" by Darrel Evans. It has a very nice double stop bass part on the verse.

LOL...I already play Trading My Sorrows, It's one of my favorites right now.  I guess I'm really looking for a way to play with more embelishments using ghost notes, slides, dynamics and stuff like that while still groovin.  Not necessarily soloing or riffs, just that little something that gives the bass line that variety.

You know you don't like to play it straight all the time.  Guess I just need to practice it a little more.

hmm didn't know this.  I haven't listened to Darrel in a long while.  I love his song "Freedom."  Can't tell you what the bass line is though.

Mike ... *off subject* ever frequent local Christian coffeehouses?

Freedom..... are you refering to the so that has the verse Where the spirit of the lord is there is FREDOOM? If this is the song, we played this at church on the past 11th and I was on bass. It's quite easy. I not generalizing but i found anything with a driving like rock beat is easy for the bass part.

Yep ... that's the song!!  I love that song.    I pretty much agree with that rock beat ... it's pretty much that way with reggae too.

We used to frequent the one out Chase.  It was called Joe's Place.  That was the best Christian Coffeehouse i'd ever been too.  Our Church singing groups used to minister there.  I've been lookn for a replacement since they've closed.  By the way coffeehouses usually sell or provide more than coffee to drink and usually there's some food too :-)

Never been to Joe's place, I have heard of it though. A friend of mine (bassplayer) used to go there too, he is the member of the church that the owner goes to. If you find a replacement can you let me know?
