Ok. I think I got it, but if not, it's pretty close.

The first note is Db, and it goes up to Ab.

G------------------------------
D----------------------4-5-6--
A---------------4-5-7---------
E--------3-4-5----------------
B-2-3-5-----------------------

...and then reverse it....

I think I'm off a little, but it sounds pretty close. My fingers can't move this fast though.
His fingers aren't using the D string in that run.
I don't play bass, my bass plays me.

That's why I said it's close. Actually, his second finger comes down and hits the Ab, so I modified the end a little, because I couldn't see/hear those notes clearly.

I may be wrong B3 but I don't think that bass is in standard tuning. I think at least 1 string is strung differently.
I don't play bass, my bass plays me.

Yea. It looks like it, but I'm just assuming that I can't hear the middle notes clearly. It seems that the Ab, should be farther down the string. I even listened to that part over and over just to make sure that top note was Ab, because like you said, it didn't look like his hand was moving the the bottom string, until I saw that second finger slip down.

Anyway, it doesn't matter really, we won't get it exact. I think it's too fast to hear clearly. I'd like to see what you came up with...not that I'd be able to play it though....My fingers are too slow.

I'm not gonna even try to touch that run if I don't know what it is, I will just come up with my own for that part, which will be as far from the original as possible. I've been really getting frustrated over it the last few days. I've devoted all of my bass practice to that one video, and I have an anniversary to get ready for and an outdoor festival. But looking over and over at it, there is noway those notes belong in the area where they are being played, unless he's a magician.
I don't play bass, my bass plays me.

Yo Bacefingers, dont get frustrated over that run, just polay it how you feel to play.  When I played it was something that came naturally, I didnt practice it I just felt that way right then and played it.  Its better that you dont try to copy it note for note, but just add you own "touch" to it.

God's speed personafied I guess. I even broke out my transcription program for that clip which slows down everything in the same key. I hardly EVER use it (and haven't in almost 2 years) because most times I can hear what is being played. But even with that software it still wasn't decernable. I can't explain what I heard but it was almost clandestine and something came to my mind that that run is between you and God. And there it shall belong. At this particular time it's not for me to know.

...and not for me to play.

Anyway, TorontosFinest, I haven't had any formal training. I'm like you: I play ear. I don't even know all the notes on the neck yet. I do know a good amount of theory, since I play keyboard, and that's how I approached the bass, at first. I just transcribed what I knew to the bass.

If you want to learn to tab and some theory, just read the stickies at the top and stick around. We're all learning together.

You B3, I left my axe at church (don't ask it was a long Sunday) but any way, I'm gonna work on that.  I'll start with whole notes and work my way up!

That's actually a pretty simple pattern. It'd take me a while (months) to work up the speed to anything near what he did though.

You know God showed me how to do this a few weeks ago. I was thinking like "Wow...That's it!". I was doing something, but I didn't know what. Anyway, I tried it again the next day and couldn't do it. It just sounded like trash. I guess it's kind of like what BACEFINGERS said, He just wanted to show me where I could be, if I stay on the right path.

Just so you guys know and you probably already know this but the intent was never to get it exactly, but to be able to take the concept and adopt it.  I've down that so many times when a kat could do something that I couldn't, I just got it as close as I could and then worked it into my routine.  The deal is, it's a great run, right now it looks super difficult but if God deals for you the way he deals with me.  In two weeks to a month, I'll be doing it so much, it'll be corny!  Not to sound cocky or anything my my faith is super, Phil 4:13, God is no respecter of persons, Mark 11:24 What things soever we desire, when we pray...  Again, I apply the word to everything and so I'm able to boast in the Lord.  I'll get it and let you know when I do.  YOU WILL NEVER HEAR ME SAY THAT I CAN'T DO SOMETHING ON THE BASS!  DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN MY TONGUE...  WATCH ME...

That's funny.  When I sit at home and practice God would blow me away by having me do things that I KNOW I can't do.  But here it is, happening.  Get to a practice, nothing.  Can't even make it happen.  Later, at home, there it is again.  In the past, my left hand was NEVER able to line up with my right hand, regarding speed and timing.  But there it is, locked.  At whatever speed I fret with my left hand, my right fingers would cover the note.  Sometimes, two or three times if I'm not careful.  At one time, I even heard a third finger join in.   I came to the conclusion that this was just between God and me, not for display...yet.  I just gotta be patient and see where God is going with this.

Tony

PS - I like the video.  I really like smoothness of that bassist.  That's the playing style God is bringing me up in.

Big up to my boys Thomas on keys and Damon on organ.

Toronto .... Damon is excellent on the organ & keys.  I enjoy listening to him when we fellowship with them.  We, Fishers of Men Deliverance ministries, were just fellowshiping with them last Friday at their street meeting.  It was awesome.

Wow Lady Bass!  I was just in Baltimore last week and was with Damon on Thursday night.  I was supposed to go to their meeting on Friday but I was too late.  Do you play bass?  How was the meeting?  Drop me an email.

I've only been playing for a few months, but the way you played that song has inspired me to work harder.  I watch the video at least once a day and I learn something new each time.  I love the sound of your Warwick( I plan on purchasing one win I get better).  I have 2 questions for toronto.

what type of amp were you using on the video?

What advice or instruction could you give to a rookie?
