Should I Get It???
« on: December 21, 2003, 09:31:57 PM »
Hey everyone....ever since i started playin my biggest hope was to get an organ to play at home.......so tonite i ran across a site that has some organs on it....it has the Korg CX3 the same one that my friend has and its $1799  and they say that if u're approved for the credit card, u dont have to pay until 15 months.....do you all think that this is a good deal and a good organ to help me learn on?? I really want to get it, but I want some second opinions before i buy it.....thanks.

1799 is the list price of a KORG CX3. I'd say check ebay first. If you don't see one there then try for a Hammond A-100, if you have the space. That'll be cheaper, if not the same price, as a CX3.

I have one. I'm playing a CX3 in the organ videos that I made. It's a good substitute for an organ, but I'd prefer to have a real one to practice on. The CX3 is good for road use. Also, if you just want a portable, you should look at a Viscount DB5, that one has dual manuals with drawbars for each and the normal 2 for the pedals. The CX3 sounds better, from what I'm told though.

Again, look at an A-100 first. You can get one on ebay or www.theaterorgans.com for about the same price as a CX3.

I cant get an big organ like an A100 because it would be too big to put in my house, so i need somethin like the size of a CX3, i need it to help me practice using the drawbars and prepare me for whenever i play during service at church.

If you use foot pedals then I would probably think twice about the BX3. I think the cost is waaaaay too much for what you get. On the other hand, if you don't, and you have the money, fine. Spend away. Personally, if you want a portable, I recommend getting the CX3 for upper and lower manuals, and get the VOCE V5 for the bass pedals. A good controller to use for the upper manual is the Radium 61, which you can get on ebay reallllly cheap.

Check this one out:
Radium 61

You'll need a speakeasy tube preamp, because the organ sounds just that much better going through it. The shotgun version costs just under $300.

Also, you'll need a small mixer to run both the V5 and CX3 into the preamp. Here's a list from ebay: mixers

And, finally, if you don't have one yet, you'll need a good amp. Everyone, that is everyone, recommends Barbetta. Personally, I built my own leslie, which sounds good to me. If you add all that up, you'll still be under the price of a BX3.

Oh....If you get all that stuff, make sure you get a good amp, because there'll be so much power, you may blow a cheapie.
