Do double stroke rolls and practice your rudiments on a pillow or something with no rebound to it. Do this over time you will feel different win you get on the kit b-cuz you have been playing all week with something with no rebound and win you get on the kit you will see some sort of speed in your hands.

If I can add something to this it would be that after you get done practicing your rudiments on pillows or whatever dead surface you choose, remember to go to the kit and practice the rudiments on it.  The reason being is that your hands are now moving faster than they use to so you have to get your arms to coordinate with them.  A lot of drummers forget that second step.  8)

I don't agree with the pillow theory. It's similar to saying running in sand makes you a fast sprinter. I don't think that's true; running in sand will make you a stronger sprinter. Likewise, I think playing on a pillow will make you a stronger, but not faster, drummer...just my opinion.

SamO,

Sup, it's Deac!  One thing you have to remember about this site is, it's a tool, not the gospel.  The Holy Spirit will show you things you don't know, just ask.  Also, there will be those that give you advice but also those that will not give you advice, they are just philosophical.  Not to be mean or anything but my brotha on the last thread about "the sand" philosophy should have offered a suggestion along with his disagreement with previous advice.  I'm glad you're on here though, hook up with some of these guys and let's keep beating the devil's head in and lifting up the name of Jesus!

Lata,
Deac aka SpiritFingers

P.S. If anyone didn't know, YoungDrumma a.k.a SamO is my drummer and he has as tight a pocket as any kat out there.  We've been doing battle for about a year or maybe longer now.  No doubt he's up and coming!

Practice your rudiments on a practice pad along with a metronome increasing your speed each week. Don't forget to accent on some of your  rudiments. I hope that works for you.

I have suggestions, but I'm from the old school, so you younger cats may think I'm crazy. Anyway, when I was younger, I went to my local Guitar Center and purchased the quitest practice pad I could get my hands on. I'd walk around with that thing and practice my syncopation throughout the day. I'd practice singles, paradiddles, doubles, one-handed 16ths...everything. My hands naturally got strong and really fast...the old fashioned way. I also purchased a pocket metronome with a headset jack. I'd plug that thing in and just go at it. I developed near perfect timing and consistency this way. I suggest such a setup for all drummers, especially if you go on a trip away from your set. Also, take a look at this clip:

By the way, that clip is of a drummer using just one hand. That's the type of speed for which you should be striving. Here's a link to the whole site:
