Can some one help me with a book and arthor of a book with more then basic musci theory. I may be just looking in the wrong places but I can't find anything outside of basic theory.

Get the Jazz Piano Book and Jazz Theory Book By Mark Levine.

Go to the top left of the screen and click on GOSPEL PRODUCTS and get Jermaine Griggs 300 series theory book. Trust me this book is excellent from start to finish.

Or better yet, just click on his name in this post.

I see that this book is on keys will it still help me even though I'm a bass player?

Basic theory is basically all you need.  Complex music theory is just a bunch of basic theory sutff put together.  You just have to break each part down, just like you do a complex math problem.  Once you break it down into simpler problems, then it isn't complex anymore.  Keep it simple and you will do just fine.
