Would you ever refuse to play without being paid up front?
« on: September 14, 2005, 04:55:31 PM »
Have any of you ever done something like this? I have under circumstances where I'm dealing with people who have taken advantage of me before. Some people say it's not Christ-like and other people say it's good business sense. What do you all think about this subject? :D

how bout this one.. pay-to-play.. here in LA when i was in the mainstream we use to play clubs, most give you the tickets first then you sell to you groupies, etc..the club charges you X amount of money to play and your pay is based on your ticket sales..Although there are others that pay you to play, but this is normally after the show..

would you pay someone for work they havent done?

i wouldn't, so when a business relationship is mutual, you get what you pay for, if they dont pay after you play--then word-to-mouth also gets around and they simply couldn't beg, barrow or steal another musician..

IMHO i would consider the source before refusing to play, if they deem reliable by all means, or how bout if your undecided about their reliability ask for 1/2 when you show up..
