Ok, ya boy is exploring all his options at this point...

What's the best Stage Piano out there?

I'm looking at the Roland 300GX and the Kurzweil SP2X.

I really just want the BEST Piano sound.

I would also checkout the new Yamaha CP Series (CP33 or CP300, depending on budget). Piano sounds are really subjective, so I would advise you to try them out at a music store and find out works best for you.

Both are real good. Just play them both and see which one you like better.

Why did you get rid of the Mo8?

To be honest I really don't like the piano sounds on it...at ALL.   :(
It's heavy, and it's too big for me to travel with.

I like the EP's on it and using those sliders in Performance mode...but overall i wasn't happy with it.

I went to Guitar Center last night and spent some time on the XS.  MUCH improved.  The piano voices are more editable.

I also spent time on the S90es, Roland 300gx and the Nord Electro 2.  The Electro 2 really has me thinking.

There is also the Kawai mp5.

Just for fun you might want to give a listen to the Yamaha NP-30 @ only 12 lbs.  It may not be THE BEST piano sound but it might be THE BEST FOR THE PRICE at $299 street.  It got a pretty good review in this months Keyboard magazine.

If you can't get the Roland 700SX then get the 300GX for a stage piano. I gigged on a 700SX about 4 weeks ago and that will be my next stage piano to purchase and travel with. Don't brush off the Kurweil, but in my opinion the Roland wins in that particular category of Stage Piano's you can easily travel with.

I have the Roland RD700SX and that's my favorite stage piano as of right now! I haven't used it since July cause I have no room to put it in my room LOL! Other than the weight, it's one of the best pianos I played on.
MERCY EN!!

I was at GC a few days ago and I gotta say... I was impressed with the Roland 300GX.

At first I thought the Pianos were only decent, then I saw the handy Hi and Lo EQ knobs.   :o

I like my pianos Bright and they responded very well to the EQ!

It's between that and the Nord Electro 2 (two opposites)

I played on the XS too.  The Pianos on the Roland are better out of the box, but I was able to adjust the XS pianos to get them JUST right!

But considering how much more the XS costs the Roland is definitely a better value.

Other strong features on the RD300GX:

"Play audio through the RD-GX directly from a USB memory key. Flexible file compatibility enables playback of Standard MIDI Files, .WAV, AIFF and MP3s ( ;D). The "Audio Key" feature lets you use the bottom 15 keys for controlling start song, song length, etc. In addition, you can connect directly to a PC via USB and tap into Cakewalk SONAR LE software, included in every RD-GX package.

For those who like to get inside an instrument and customize its sounds, the RD-GX’s Piano Designer feature is your key to unlocking and personalizing the sound-set, down to the smallest details such as Hammer Noise, Damper Resonance, Duplex Scale and more.

The RD-GX series make great master controllers, thanks to multi-zone functionality."

Nice.
