Just Started Back to Playing what to do?

For many years, I was blessed to have piano lessons when I was younger and I played piano for seven years.  Then I stopped playing. Then last year the Lord brought everything back for me in rememberance for a music class I was taking for my music minor.  So now I am at this fellowship and the pastor wanted me to play again.  I am practing but it is a lot of stuff I have to work through (I suffered from bad performance anxiety).  I was blessed to have a good ear and can play by ear good but trying to regain playing with some of the chords.  Y'all got any advice for someone just coming back in playing piani especially for a ministry?  Thanks a mil,

Of course you will want to start in prayer. Thank GOD for giving you another chance to worship HIM in music, and ask GOD to open your understanding so you can play only for HIM.

Then you will want to work on building a repetoire of songs. Congregational songs, praise and worship songs, songs for the offering, opening the service and closing the service.

Get a notebook and copy down some progressions for talk music and music to play under the announcements, under prayer, etc. Never can have too many progressions memorized.  :wink:

After you have a good repetoire up and you can help and assist the service, then go on to learning new material. As I am sure you know, a musician's bag should always be full of fresh stuff.

Hope this helps with finding a starting point. There are lots of great songs arranged on this site and also Sis T's site, at www.earnestandroline.com.

Y'all thanks so much for the help and encouragement.  I am so glad I came to this site!  I did check out the link you told me Bboy and plan to print out a few of the songs since alot of them are those that we sing on Praise and Worship Team (we are a very very small church around 13 people).  A lot of the team are Teenagers so we are doing more contemporary gospel stuff but yet want to have a few old school tunes in the bag.  But I shall be praying and be dilligent this week.
