For the Men: What About this Modern Woman Thing?
« on: September 29, 2005, 05:41:13 PM »
The modern woman is independent. She’s strong. She’s going after her career. She doesn’t need me, although she wants me. When I go out on a date with the modern woman, I’m always expected to pay for stuff. I can’t forget she’s independent though! Sometimes the modern woman even makes more money than me.

I've accepted the fact that a woman with good old-fashioned values is a dying breed. In the new millennium, it’s no longer OK for me to want a woman to be able to cook or to be able to keep a house clean. The modern woman may be willing to do such things, but I better not dare ask.

With the modern woman, it has become fashionable to expect the man to know how to cook…and well. While she’s at it, the man should also know how to housekeep.

My aunt asked me the other day why I’m not married yet. I told her “they just don’t make ‘em how they used to.” Now, I admit that some of the problem is with me. I have to be able to give a little. At the same time, I’m bringing a lot to the table. I’m just not sold on this whole modern woman thing.

I have a question for the fellas. Do you think we’ve given up too much to the women nowadays? What are we getting out of the new deal with the modern woman?

Well, this is my own opinion but, "I'm not with it!" I dont know?!?!? I like for a lady to be old fashioned, yet we are living in a new era, but I am attracted to those type. The ones that wear dresses, wear their hair, lol! The ones who know how to cook and clean, help Lord!!! The women in this time, want to wear anything, I mean, "where is the standard?" God forbid be submissive to their husbands!! Help us lord...

Not to leave the men out... Most men think that they are the man!!! Now, that is what God made you... But fellas, when we rebuke our wives or future wives, lets rebuke in love...

I don't think a "good" man would take being stepped on....a nice one on the other hand, may not be godly, so he may be a little timid and accept it.

Modern women are just a little more agressive, and like to be chased a little more, I think, so sometimes we have to catch 'em and put them in a figure-four leg-lock (as Nakia would do), until they tap out, like she says....all in love of course!!!

Hey, I have sparring equipment at home that my wife and I use...face guard, mouth piece, gloves and all.      We haven't used them in a couple years though. She's been wanting me to work out with her though, so we may have to bring the gloves back out!    ...as long as she doesn't have any bruises we won't have people thinking that I'm abusing her!...cause you know they wouldn't believe her if she said we were sparring!  :?

A coupla things, 1. I told my wife that I like Dutch food, eat there quite often, and she agreed, next to Chinese she loves going Dutch.
2.  I told my wife when we first met "I don't need you!  I want you!"  Her jaw dropped until I told her the second line.  She'd rather be wanted than needed.  Children need their parents, but at times don't want them.
Modern women?  Hmmm, well, as long as they go along with Biblical values and Biblical teachings I say it's good.

It's all about priorities.

Hmm. Interesting.

Why would anyone let the world, which the Bible says will pass away, dictate how they live?

I know that is not what we are saying here, but I think that some brothers think they must have what the world says a woman should be, not what a Proverbs 31 woman strives to be.

The Proverbs 31 woman was a talented sister. She had her own fashion and textile business, bringing in fabrics from foreign lands. She was quite an entrepeneur, and she made money by real estate.

This is why we aren't more blessed, saints. The Bible outlines how the home is to be run and the needs of each that are to be honored.

The Bible also says that we will all stand before GOD for how we use our gifts. So if she has the talent to be the best neurosurgeon the world has ever seen, why would any brother want to stand in her way?

And why would any sister consider marrying someone who isn't proud of her gifts, talents and amibitions? He ought to be proud to say, 'My fiancee finishes her MBA in May, she plans on accepting a position with the government after we get married," "That's my fiancee on the piano, tearing up the keys" "Yes, my wife does keep house better than Martha Stewart ever did," "I tell ya, I don't know how my wife does it . . . kids always taken care of, works, teaches Sunday School . . . I just thank GOD for her," "That's my wife preaching up there; yeah, GOD really has blessed her, she is anointed," "My fiancee has her own decorating business, she has done half the offices downtown," "My wife is an attorney, she just made senior partner at her firm," The sharper the sister, the more it says about the man she has chosen to be with, right?

Just thinking out loud . . .

Be Blessed, everyone

Thanks, BBoy.  CERTAIN men think women should be barefoot & in the kitchen in order to be biblical - puhleeeeze!

Look, fellas ~ a woman can be the baaadest attorney out there or any of those other professions BBoy mentioned above AND YET...still be soft & feminine!

God wired men & women differently, but that doesn't mean women can't or shouldn't use their God-given talents and abilities.

Modern, Godly women have NO PROBLEM submitting to their husbands, who are being led by God especially if that man is loving his wife as Christ loves the church.

Look, we all need to stop fighting one another and accept the fact that God made us uniquely different & stop painting the other sex with a very wide brush & stop throwing labels on each other ("playa", "needy", etc) which only serves to further divide the sexes.

I think we can all agree God has yet more work to do on ALL of us and in the meantime, let's treat each other and love each other the way God intended for us to do regardless of where we are in our Christian growth. Can't we all just get along??

I can agree with you on this… but then again I cannot… I am a modern day independent woman… But I am far from what you described… Yes I am Strong, I am going after my career… However I do need and want a man… I can’t do it all by myself… We “modern” need encouragement, companionship, and love just like every other woman out there…Paying for the date depends on who asked whom… If I ask you out then I am paying and vice versa…

I don’t believe that it’s dying its just dormant… We want to take our rolls however in this new millennium we don’t have the time to do certain things… I know for myself being a single parent that after I started working I completely stopped cooking… I didn’t have the time… My son and I were the take-out king and queen… Between work and church, my free time consisted of sleep, getting my hair done and nap under the dryer, sleep, getting my nails done and knod off, sleep and sleep some more… it wasn’t until I lost my job that I realized that my son missed when I cooked… I made my special dish of sautéed chicken with peppers, onions and red potatoes over salad… and my son was elated… He came in from outside and was like something smells good… He went into the kitchen and started jumping up and down because I had actually cooked… LMBO!!!! He told everybody and they looked at me like you cooked 8O… Asking wouldn’t be a problem it’s a matter of fitting it into our busy schedule… :)

I don’t know about expected… but it wouldn’t hurt to know how… It lets us know that you are able to pick up the slack should the need arise… :)
