Videos of my compositions
« on: October 06, 2005, 04:39:24 PM »
Hi guys!

I'm new on this forum and I would like to introduce myself with some videos of solo bass playing that I've made.

1. Eternal waterfalls (a very spiritual song) : http://rapidshare.de/files/3862043/Eternal_Waterfalls.wmv.html

2. Flamencore (a song that uses some flamenco guitar techniques) : http://rapidshare.de/files/3593052/Flamencore.mpg.html

To donwload the songs, you must click on "free" at the bottom of the page, then on the next page, scroll down and the file will become avalaible after a couple of seconds. The videos are big (about 35mb-40mb) but your patience will get reward :D

So I hope you enjoy!

Sweet!

I only saw the first one too, but it was good. I especially like that 4-finger style you added in there. I've been practicing using 4 fingers, but I can only do chromatics slowly right now. You were blazing!

I think next year, I'll try to learn some two-hand tapping. What material did you use to learn it? A good point in the right direction would be nice.

 8O  Oh...Yea...Welcome to the site.

Thanks for your comments guys!

First, I only use 3 fingers while the fast plucking line (3-2-1 method). But I've worked on four fingers technique and I may post a clip of me using this technique in a near futur.

Secondly, for the tapping, the first thing I've learned is Van Halen style (one string tapping using hammer-ons and pull off). Then I watched virtuoso like Stu Hamm, Victor Wooten, Michael Manring and Billy Sheehan. I did not really learned one whole song of these guys, but I've learned there licks and there different approach to tapping style. Then I've arranged some popular songs (like Otherside from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers) using tapping using my left hand to cover the bass/guitar parts and my right hand to play the vocal line. And finally I came up with my own composition. So what I will recommend to you is to listen/watch to some great tapper (even electric guitar tapper and acoustic guitar tapper) and practice all the stuff you know using tapping (play scales with both hand, play some basic riff using one hand exclusively, etc.)

Thirdly, I don't know if I can explain the steps for the donwloading in a better way. All I can say is that the "free" icon is at the bottom of the first page and on the second page, the file will become avalaible after 30 seconds or so (wath the countdown).

And by the way, I use altered tuning for "Eternal Waterfalls". My strings are tune E-G-D-A (form low to high).

Hey guys, I've made a new composition (an mp3 this time) and I offer it to you first, since I find you very cool. There is 5 bass tracks (3 main one, and two to add some color) and no effects execpt eq and reverb.

Be Minor : http://rapidshare.de/files/5971751/Be_Minor.mp3.html

I hope you'll like it!

Dtuned : maybe the problem is that when you were on the page of donwload you press on back and when you return, the file was no more avalaible 'cause you can only download 50 mb per hour. So I suggest you to try it again and you may be able to listen/watch me.

I've been playing bass for 9 years now. To be honest with you, I've been practicing almost exclusively my technique for the past 4 years, but now, I've decided to practice my groove chop and I would like to improve my timing.

To improve yourself, there is no secret, you must practice. How? Well, I generaly practice 2 hours per day (some people do more, but for me it's enough). During this 2 hours, I practice with my metronome at 60 bpm playing only 8th. I do a round up of all my techniques (fingerstyle, slap, tapping, pick, flamenco stuff...). The reason why I play only 8th notes this slow is because it's the only way to pay attention to how your fingers work. If you can play a lick perfectly (and without any stress) at a slow speed, there is no reason why you couldn't play it fast. I like this analogy : Did you learned who to run? No, you learned how to walk and then you were able to run. It's the same things with music. So be sure that you are really relaxe when you practice and pay attention to your tone. You can also practice in front of a mirror to see if you are really relaxed or not.

I hope this make any sense.

that makes perfect sense to me but it could cause agruments that as a child you learn to walk and can naturally run but to excel in running (track and field) you have to learn how to run fast.  But for as good as I want to be I only need to learn how to walk then just run.  It sounds like I might be limiting myslef but once I can run then I just keep running faster!  Thanks.... Nine years huh?.... You dont look very old.  Around 18-20 yrs so that would be from around 9-11yrs old you started, so your fingers have been trained to move like that since childhood major advantage.
