Personally think that we drummers can really learn a lot from good/great keyboard and piano players. Feel being a big thing. Every drummer that has played with Chick Corea says that he taught them about feel.

I was told by one who use to be a drummer who's now a keyboard organist that i didn't have any feel while playing certain songs. Basically the feel of a song is the feelings u put into the song which means playing a song correctly it takes alot of listening to whats going on in ur musical surroundings at the time. Usually its alot easier to develop a feel to the music when u are around good musicians and good musicians always bring forth good music a perfect example u cant have the same feel of the song with a straight 4/4 on a 3/4 6/8 the feel of song and timing is different its more feeling put into 3/4
and 6/8 because of the count if u do it in 4s it will sound very dead and not very rhythmic or as stated played with no feel

another way is just to lay down a comfortable groove that works well for what ever song basically its no advice u can take on getting ur own feel its something that u should already have before even picking up the sticks and overall it is the most naturalist way to play

True however if you learn to modulate from 4/4 to 6/8 and back then you will open lot's of options to developing better fell. I have started working on that from Steve Holmes' (HouseofDrumming.com) DVD Shed Some Light. Zoro touches on some similar stuff on the new Modern Drummer Fest 2005 DVD. Zoro is definitley one to study on feel.

true its possible i was just stating that they are 2 different timings meaning that the feel of the timing is different it isnt as straight forward as a 4/4 would be

I wasn't correcting you I was just piggybacking off of you and letting you know about the Steve Holmes thing. You sound like the type that would be interested in that (time manipulation) stuff. It hard to find good teaching on that in a video format.

To each his own. I will say that Zoro has the answers to a lot of the issues players have on this forum. He is a a touring drummer with a fa resume and also a great clinician and Berkley grad.

We have to be careful not to MISS the forest for the trees. He doesn't do obvious over-the-top flashy stuff but he does the refined subtle complexities  of Bernard Purdie, Jeff Pocaro, John Bohnam, Ziggaboo Modeliste, Gadd, J.R. Robinson and the list goes on. Don't overlook/disregard good teaching because it doesn't "tickle your ears".

Zoro's performance/instruction at this years Modern Drummer Fest is a must watch for most on this forum so check out the 3-DVD set that just dropped.

Don't won't to sound preachy but saying that you fall asleep on it basically because it board you is like falling asleep in class. We can't forget that at the end of the day we still are responsible for "getting it". And when it comes time to apply the skill that taught we go uh oh. Everything that is good for us is not going to be enjoyable/exciting etc. Just something to seriously think about.
