Roots and Fifths never sounded so good!

Here is a sweet root-fifth voicing....


C-G-C \ E-B-E


If you put both hands together, they make a Major7th chord. Play with this voicing, when you need to play either a Maj or Major7th chord.


Here is the minor7 version....

C-G-C \ Eb-Bb-Eb


I'll post a clip of some uses for these chords later....You can move it diatonically though. It's really effective, when you're going from 1 to 4 or 1-5, diatonically.

And if you go down just one more half-step, you would have a major 6th add 2.

I think octaves on the left hand can tend to sound very cluttered especially if you have a bass player...... On the otherhand I use octaves on the right hand quite often. I started trying that out after I saw Kirk Franklin doing it one time and I liked the way it sounded...... I also use them alot on the right hand for Latin type music and it really gives it flavor on the Montunos.....

One thing I noted that PJ Morgan or even Casandra O'neal would do is is play like a 10th in the left hand like:

Awwww yes..... the famous "rolling the 10th" . This is actually taught in classical piano. Alot of Marcos Witt music uses this technique. Somethimes I just sit a practice rolling the 10th in every key and before you know it my fingers just do it when I am playing........

My hero...  I practice rolling the 10th also, but when I go to play it, I play the 1 5 1 still.  Guess I need to practice ALOT more.

I use 10ths also, but I also like the openess of this voicing, when it's used for passing chords. You can almost hear each note clearly.
