Lord Help! An Embarassing Moment.
« on: November 13, 2005, 03:01:07 PM »
I had a guy from church tell me a pastor was looking for a musician and that the church currently only had a guitar player. I went to the church with him to play and they had a guitar player, drummer, and a keyboard player. Im thinking I will just fit in. Then I noticed the band was pretty tight knit. So Im just laying in the back ground and trying to follow the lady playing keys. Also while I was playing they were giving each other signs and the none of the musicians even acknowledged me. The lady got off the keys at one point and sat in the audience. I was thinking that weird. Then the pastor got up and was saying how he had some friends(me and the other guy) to come from columbia there and that he was looking for a contemporary sound. He put me on the spot all of a sudden and asked me to play something. Lord what did he do that for. I played something because I was put on the spot. Then all the musician get up and walk out the back door and slam it. I think they took my annointing with them cause it got heavy in there. I got off the organ to go talk to them I really knew something was wrong. I went outside and talked to the lady she didnt know I was coming to play nor any of the other musicians. I apologized for the confusing eventhough I had nothing to do with it and left in the middle of service. That was a mess. I apologized a few times and the musicians said it was alright but I kinda wasnt convinced. Im not sure how the rest of service was when I was gone but I know it must have been a trip. I hope not to have another experience like that.

Yea, but if the pastor says he wants you there, there is nothing you can really do, except leave. He may have been trying to push them to update their sound and it wasn't working, so he looked to you.

Yea, be careful and pray about it. Gospel musicians can be pre-madonnas
just like popstars and rappers.

Well there is more to the story. Im not sure what is going on. Somebody is lying somewhere. I wont be back. The pastor called the guy that came with me. Supposedly the musicians are usually not on time to service and they were forewarned that he was going to bring in another musician. So they played a little louder than normal and they may have unplugged the leslie because the organ did not work at first when I got there. I dont like drama this is what you get when you try to be a nice guy. So either the musician was lying, the pastor, or the guy that came with me.  :x I think I may take a break from playing at church stuff like this has been getting to me lately. I will have to see and pray.

Sorry to hear that mysteryman. I feel you, I don't think I would go back there and be caught up in drama... especially in chruch. But that just me...
Pray on it and let God order your steps.... By the way how are things in Columbia? I was born there, haven't been back since I was 12

:o I know the feeling man. the musicians  didn't want you there and the pastor asked you to come there..he had his reason for asking you to come  and you will have your reason for now returning to his church to play . You probaly felt that you were put on the spot and felt that you were unwanted there  by  the  othere musicians and I would have felt the way too.  Being a musician and  in strange situations is part of musicianhood   I wouldn't  stop playing my instrument {s} if something happen like this happen Give God glory and be on your way somewhere else. Just pray lst.

Columbia is growing pretty fast as far as a place to settle down. The traffic is getting worse. It's not bad bad just kinda busy. We have a few over developed areas here where people are moving to the suburbs. Job wise the pay is average. The teachers are supposedly under paid and they say our education level is the one of the worst in the country. Seeing all this I would say things are great here.   Just kidding. It is a good place to settle down and raise a family. Kinda nice and quiet. Recreation is more in the area of parks. Its not a hot spot like NY or ATL. USC is buying the whole city up too. They bought the property I work at. They have like 30,000+ students there. Benedict and Allen are trying to keep up. Many small annex colleges are here too like Limestone and Webster. Midlands Tech is like one of the top technical colleges so I hear.

Marvin that is terrible. You did the right thing and you just need to move on. Pray about it.
Something is wrong there and God let you feel it. You are an awesome musician Marvin and I love your spirit. God has something for you, so be patient and wait. Sometimes we have to go through some things in order to learn. I probably would have sat down in the audience after seeing musicians already playing. Well I will be praying for you.

Love your sister,

Sharon
