One way to get into linear playing is to listen to your favorite artists in my case they were Jazz performers and I would takem or play their lines with the help of transcriber or amazing slowdown which can be acquired over the internet. these programs allow you to slow down and play with the performer. I would pick out various artist horn players worked best for me because of their single line playing but also vocalists as well as keyboards. Hope this will help someone out there.

Another thing that would help would be to learn scale and modes theory in relationship to harmony.

Speaking of jazz performers who do you listen to for ideas in linear playing?
