practice questions
« on: December 04, 2005, 02:56:05 PM »
Does anyone have any suggestions on how you should practic. I practice 2 to 3 hours a day and was doing good up untill I hit the chapters on the 7th's in the play piano by ear in Jernaine Griggs book and 101 video.

There are just to many different chords now. There are dominant, major, and minor sevenths. Diminished sevenths, major sixths & minor 6th's and I have not even touched the arsonal of ninths, elevenths, and thirteenths and all their combinations.

Here is my question. My teacher makes me custom made music and adds more chords and altered chords as I advance on a certain song once she knows the basic chords are drilled into my brain. (this is not sheetmusic but chord names and letters with the words)

So far we are working on 8 major scales: C,F,G,Bb,Eb,Ab,D, and E. I can play all triads with ease off the top of my head as well as most 7's such a C7 or G7 and C6, A6, G6 and whatnot. Should I just stay within the scales I am allready playing in and wait untill she starts making me music in other keys to practice them. Also do I need to practice my minor scales?

This would be eaiser since I would only have 8 to work on. Any suggestions would be appreciated. And should I just pick a few scales a week and practice them or go over them all daily? What does everyone think. I want to maximize my brain power but do not know the most efective way to practice and retain info. Ive mentioned it befor but I do not comprehend well so it takes awhile for me to get stuff down so I need some tips.

Sorry about the double post, I posted in the wrong place earlier.
