Cissy Strut was origijnally created by the Meters (now known as The Funky Meters) straight outta New Orleans. The great Ziggaboo Modeliste was the drummer.

Here the pure unadultereated RAW original funksters do it,... no click, no quantizing, all in one room session playing.

This is what the pocket and funk is all about.

If you have not heard the Meters you have not heard how funk is sposed to be played... just RAW musical truth. Most every established funk drummer Dennis, Dave Garibaldi, Stanton Moore, Zoro, Gene Lake, Diamond, Bootsie, (yes Bootsie Collins played drums on several P-Funk/Parliament songs)even Keith Carlock and the list goes on, studied the Meters and Ziggaboo.

And yes Anton Fig did lay it down. His rendition is hot. Must be that African in him (South Africa that is... where he was born/ grew up... you know he was probably sneakin' around,    just jokes people)

i saw a clinic with stanton moore who knows zig personally and he demonstrated how he plays it and how he came upon the beat for it. i was able to alk with hima little bit aside from the clinic and he was a really cool guy. it may be the funkiest song ever recorded and is the heart and soul of the new olreans funk. to hear more good funk like that, check out galactic which is also a really funky band out of new orleans with stanton as the drummer.....

What you know about The Meters?!!!  Brought back memories of my younger days at the Jazz Fest and other events where they would perform.

My dad still has The Meters LP in his garage (That's if it survived Katrina).

Sister T,
Not as much as I would like but, I am a respector of history and you gotta know where the groove comes from... as some old bumper stickers say, I'm Southern born and Southern bread.... (me being born MS and grow up in Memphis, somethin' about that River sound like the Micheal McDonald/Doobie Bros said, bout that Ole Black Water).

*** Sister T, I hope that your has family faired well since the storms... God be with them.

Thanks. They may have lost tangible things, but they still have life. That we all are thankful for.
