Inversion Help, etc.
« on: January 06, 2006, 04:35:16 PM »
Still working at learning how to play gospel, but I need help - I was reading this book set I got from radio shack: keyboard starter kit

I don't understand how to know what inversion is being played:
ex. key of c
root: c-e-g
1st: e-g-c
2nd: g-c-e

How do I know to move to another inversion and move to the right one?

If someone say play in the key of a - do I play the root or inversions or what

Practice help: can someone help me - tell me what to play over or practice daily and how to learn these chords by heart.
And then, c7 root - I think I'm running out of fingers - HELPPPP LEASE

I really admire you musicians - my 2006 goal is: lose 100lbs for health reasons and myself - learn to play gospel music and get through with LPN school so we won't have to struggle so much money wise, but I do know as long as we have Christ in our life we will always be rich :!:

look at the Basic Chord Fingering post at the top of this forum page for a list of all the basic chords in every key and in every inversion.

In order to play the right inversion of a chord, use the inversion where the melody note is the top note of the chord.  So, using a C major chord, if the melody note is E, then play G-C-E, which is the 2nd inversion of the C major chord.  If the melody note is C, then  play E-G-C, which is the 1st inversion of the C major chord.  If the melody note is G, then u play
C-E-G, which is the root position of the C major chord.
Real musicians play in every key!!!
