I personally have not seen a New Omar Hakim going for $150... BUT...if you could find one for that price, I would probably take that over a Musashi. The Hakim is African Mahogany, a very warm and full sounding wood. If Not....

Out of the choices you gave, I would definitely have to go with the Musashi. the 13" is nice, but the 12X6 comes with a groove wedge for the same price, so that might be what you want...

God Bless.

How much would you pay for the Pork Pie Little Squealer snare?
Should I get that one, then?

...Too many choices and I have no idea what I'm doing, lol.

Are you a female? A natural color basically goes with any color drumset. I would want something that sticks out in color and sound. They have the yamaha stage customs on musicians friend for 5x10(94.99), 5x12(99.99). They do have the 5x14 it gets up to 129.99 I think.

Haha, yes I am. Well maybe it's just me then, but black and brown don't look so hott together, even if it is just on drums...

The Yamaha Musashi and the Pork Pie Little Squealer works, though. Out of those two which do you guys think I should get??

What about Pork Pie snares? If I can get one of those for under $200 should I? What about the Mapex Black Panther snare? It's pretty good too, right?

Current Options:

I can get a Mapex Black Panther 10" X 5.5" pretty much new, with nice, upgraded heads for about $150.
There's also a Mapex Black Panther 14x6.5" black chrome steel snare that I'm looking at.

I can get a Tama PS 255 stainless steel 10 lug snare 5.5" X 14" w/ Evans coated G2 on top, Ambassador on bottom, Puresound wires, and an Evans EMAD for $155.

I can get a Pearl Maple 4x10 Snare w/ new Remo Ambassador heads on it for about $160. (Ha, the only thing with this one is, it's the natural maple finish so that doesn't really go with my black onxy set, lol.)

So...out of those choices should I get one of the above snares or stick with the 6.5"x13" Yamaha Musashi / 7"x13" Tama Artwood (which doesn't exactly match my black onyx set, either...lol)?

Thanks again for all your help!

Stay away from 10" snares, stay away from the Pork Pie Squealer it TOO one-dimesional and too loud.

The 14"x6.5" is Mapex Black Panther is good.

The 13"x6.5" Yamaha Musashi Oak is your best option.... Tama doesn't have a snare with that type of response and clarity (not to say the Artwood isn't a good snare but the Musashi is better.) I have ownerd the 12"x6" Musashi for 4 years and every where I play it not only drummers but other musicians LOVE IT.

EVANS G1, Genera, Reverse Power Center or G2 coated on top with a Hazy 300 bottom or Hazy 200 for extra sensitivity. To really set it off add some PureSound Equalizer 16 strand wires !

REMO Ambassador, Reverse CS ,or PowerStroke 3 on top with Ambassador bottom or Suede top and Diplomat bottom for more sentivity. *** Emporer X will be too loud... way too loud.

I am so in Love with my snare that I dont even want to think about another..... but down the road...My next 2 snares will be

MUSASHI 12x6
HAKIM 13x5

GO WITH THE MUSASHI...THATS EVERYBODYS OPINION. I would tell you to consider the Hakim, but its at a Higher price range, and its brown.... So get the black Musashi...You cant go wrong.

God Bless
