"Death, and life, are in the power of the tongue. They that enjoy it will eat its fruit.."
"if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done......"
Ahh... yes, I am familiar with that song, and I am a firm believer of it... I made the previous statement to say this...
I think that people often take songs out of context... songs like "rough side of the mountain" were not intended to imply that we should just accept our circumstances or that life should be one long, sad, painful, journey
The "mountain" in this song is just a metaphor that represents the burdens and hardships that we will experience on our way to heaven... the trials that we all will take on in life.
The song could have very well used the terms "valley" or "rain" or "the fire" to represent hard times in life...
As for the scripture you quoted... Read the rest of the 17th chapter of Matthew
just to be brief, I'll just quote these:
19 - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 - Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
I believe the scripture was talking about having the faith to do the seemingly impossible... like casting out demons and healing the sick, etc. and was not intended to be interpreted as an easy way to avoid tribulations and suffering
