I didn't read all the threads but I read enough to get a little upset. If God reveals a song to someone, it has meaning. [/glow]

Well, some people just simply write a song and call it gospel.  That's where we get this topic.
When you've done your very best, do even better.

If God reveals a song to someone, it has meaning.

What about "walk around heaven all day"

Yes... there especially the part where it says

"I'm going to a place where I'll have nothing to do But just walk around heaven all day"....

What???? Nothing to do?? i don't think that sounds too interesting to most people... especially sinners!!

Ahhhh now there is rub....there is no smooth side, hence the admission to this thread...... The bible tells us to speak to the mountain

Are you implying that never have to go through tribulations?? All we have to do is speak and they will immediately go away?

"Death, and life, are in the power of the tongue. They that enjoy it will eat its fruit.."

"if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done......"

Ahh... yes, I am familiar with that song, and I am a firm believer of it... I made the previous statement to say this...

I think that people often take songs out of context... songs like "rough side of the mountain" were not intended to imply that we should just accept our circumstances or that life should be one long, sad, painful, journey

The "mountain" in this song is just a metaphor that represents the burdens and hardships that we will experience on our way to heaven... the trials that we all will take on in life.

The song could have very well used the terms "valley" or "rain" or "the fire" to represent hard times in life...

As for the scripture you quoted... Read the rest of the 17th chapter of Matthew

just to be brief, I'll just quote these:

19 - Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 - And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 - Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

I believe the scripture was talking about having the faith to do the seemingly impossible... like casting out demons and healing the sick, etc. and was not intended to be interpreted as an easy way to avoid tribulations and suffering

Add to the list, though it's listed as inspirational, the remake of New Edition's "Can You Stand The Rain" revived by The Murrills.

and the rest of it.

"but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith."
So does that mean that Christians will never have to experience hardship, or tough times?

My point was not to be pessimistic or doubtful, I may have came off as sounding that way, but my original point is life ain't always gonna be easy, as in the case of the phrase "climbing up the rough side of the mountain"...

There are some things we will have to go through until God says stop... I'm simply saying this... speaking may bring you through tribulations but it doesn't always prevent them from happening...

But i understand your point Wolfman... The song "rough side of the mountain" sounds more like a complaint(bad news) than Gospel (good news)...
And you are right we should be speaking and beleiving that we will recieve the best that God has for us and not just trying to "make it in"...

Which leads me to my next song:

My Lord, don't mo-oo- oove my mountain
But give me the strength to climb
And Lo- o- ord, don't take away my stumbling blocks
But lead me all around

What??? I'm going with Wolfman on this one!!!

Nahh, prollems gon' come. They STAY comin.

But when prollems come to pass?

For the beleiver, they do exactly that.

Come to pass, not come to stay.

The thing is, we have the authority to tell them to not impede our life, but too many of us prayin talkin bout, **Ab please**"laaaawd do it! Lawwwwwd do it! LAAAAAAWWWWD do it!"

And Abba father is like, "no, you have my attribute of dominion. My attribute of the spoken word. The Holy Spirit, YOU DO IT. I aint doin nuffin."

This song has a meaning and I understand why it was on the album, but it rendered itself pointless:

"I Still Love You" - Trin-i-tee 5:7

The song is about a saved woman who can't get over the man God paired her with.  In the song she says, "And I prayed, prayed in vain, that my heart would change.  But I just can't change."

Erm...if you wanted to change you wouldn't be praying in vain.  :-\  Don't complain about not changing if you didn't want to change in the first place.

Oh and I forgot Anthony Hamilton's Pass Me Over... It's a beautiful song but It makes no sense!!!

I think both songs of those songs were written by R. Kelly, so that explains alot!!

It sounds like R. Kelly takes alot of Gospel cliches and Biblical phrases out of context and mash them together until they sound decent!!!

Let me start off the list with: "Cooling Water"

I really don't like this song... but it does have meaning...

O wat a relief it was
When God rescued me
He loosed the chains and had me bound
And he set me free
It "FELT" like (cooling water from grandma's well)

I think it's saying that when he got saved he felt clean and refreshed, and when he got dipped in the water it reminded him of the water and his grandma's well. I guess he refers it to that because the water in his grandma's well tasted good????
....
....
....
....
....
....
No scratch what i just said. It DOESN'T have any meaning lol...

When I was a child in the 1940s and there was no air conditioning and the temperature was in the late 90s or even a hundred degrees, I and my brothers and friends would wander far from home on foot in the heat. We would play and in later years work in the heat of the sun and then be faced with the necessity of walking back home.

Sweating like a hog, and almost depleted of liquids in our bodies, we would sometimes either because we knew that we were near it, or by accident come upon a well.

We would drink the water and splash it over our heads. The water was sweeter than any honey, and more cooling to our heads that any fan.  No taste of clorine or any chemical, and cooled by the depth of the spring or source feeding the well.

I understand "it felt like cooling water from grandma's well".

The song, "I don't need nobody else", sometimes you don't have nobody else.  Seems like your friends are all on the other side of the road.  You might think, I'm trying to do the right thing and I am going to stay with it. Long as I got King Jesus---

Most(MOST)of the songs have a meaning for someone or another as they move along and experience life's events.
