Let me add one more the list...

Christopher Page and the Dream Keeper's Ensemble
Sanctified Slide
(2008)

(click on cover to listen to entire song)

(if you have the newer version Firefox, it may not play in that browser. To listen to the song, you'll need to switch to Internet Explorer.)

and of course we can all agree that The Breakfast Song has made it's induction to this prestigious list... :D BTW, did anyone see that Matthew (Prayzehymn has this up on his site.. too much :) )

Clap, clap, clap yo' hands... now WALK in the spirit!  :D

You know, when I saw this on Digstation back in Jan., I was interested just by the cover because it looked contemporary. HOWEVER WITW did they choose that song as their first song on the album is so beyond me because it turned me off from wanting to listen to any of the other samples from the album.

Alright Sjon, I found this just for you. It's a video where the artist is being interviewed about the album and that song in particular. He shows everyone how to do the slide at around 7:06.

Oh no! Not the Sanctified Slide! LOL

Well, there's one song in particular that I think fits this bill by the Roberta Martin Singers from '57. James Cleveland wrote it and it's called "Every Now and Then". The words say "He doesn't come often, but he stops by every now and then." I was discussing the song with a friend, and I said James Cleveland made God sound like He's with us sometimes, and not with us during other times. The scriptures say He's omnipresent.

Yes, sir, not just a slide but a sanctified one!

That is one that fits the bill because what I've always been taught is that God is omnipresent, but maybe he may have meant that when we want God to step in right away when we want Him...IDK???

What's next?  The Baptist Booty Pop?

Yes, even in Gospel some folks come up with a gimmick to get noticed.

Some of those women in the choir who don't know any better already do that. I guess that's what happens when certain bass riffs cross over into the gospel territory. :D

Well, speaking of stepping in, they came out with a song two years after "Every Now and Then" called "Step In Jesus." Maybe the latter was a clarification song, lol.

How about ALL of the "Hallelujah is the highest praise" songs.  What page was that on again?  I read about the people saying Hallelujah a lot in the Bible (and it means, praise the Lord).  But there are also instances of people shouting out "Hosanna" and "Selah"!  So, how was the determination made as to which one meant more than the other, and on what scale were the words weighed in order for that one praise to become the HIGHEST!?  And what is the lowest praise?  AMEN MAYBE!  Oh no, well that means "it is done".  Right?
Hallelujah is the highest praise songs really irk me. I have yet to find scripture supporting that.

Actually someone put it to me this way, and it makes sense.  Praise can be attributed to anyone or anything, but highest praise is praise to God.  The word hallelujah literally means "Praise God"

Really?

Revelation 19:1-6

"After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for His judgments are true and just; He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants." Once more they cried, "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever." And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who is seated on the throne, saying, "Amen. Hallelujah!"

"And from the throne came a voice crying, "Praise our God, all you His servants, you who fear Him, small and great." Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying, "Hallelujah! For The Lord our God the Almighty reigns."

Jonathan, that scripture does not support the assertion that hallelujah is the highest praise.  It does nothing more than provide an instance wherein the command was used.

It's like Nessa said, the word "hallelujah" is actually a commanding phrase that means "you praise God."  You can offer praise to anyone, for anything, but the highest praise you can offer is that to God... which is why some people insist that hallelujah is the highest praise.

Nonetheless, the word itself isn't a praise anyway, it's a command to praise.  It's like saying, "clap your hands for Jesus, everybody."  Except, you're saying "praise God, everybody."

Hallelujah does not mean "praise God". It is a command or exhortation or order and literally means "You praise God!!" It's as if I told you  "Close the door!!" and instead of closing the door, you told me "Close the door" in response. Similarly, when someone standing in the pulpit says, "Praise God!!" we shouldn't say "Praise God" back to them, we should actually praise God.

You mean like in the army when someone says, 'Ten-hut' (or, whatever the phrase is), everyone salutes the higher ranking officer?

I am not sure, but I think the "highest praise" may be found in Revelation 4:8-9:

"8.  And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
9. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,"

The questions I have are whether that is the highest praise that I can give God, Or is that high praise reserved for the creatures around the throne. When I get to heaven, I'll probably find that the highest praise I could've given was mere and complete obedience.

\Not quite, it would be like the sargeant saying "ten-hut" and instead of saluting, the soldiers said "Ten-hut" back to their sargeant.
