What happen to Ruben!!!
« on: December 09, 2003, 08:31:47 AM »
Clay was on Good Morning America TWICE in the last 4 week period!!!
>I just scratch my head in wonder at how this "2nd place" winner is
>being so greatly promo'd. Read on... Today, I see another article about
>Clay
>Aiken (who came in second place in this year's American Idol
>competition) and how his album, which debuted this week, is number one
>on the Billboard charts. Don't get me wrong, Clay has a nice voice.
>But Clay DID NOT WIN the competition. Ruben Studdard did.
>
>Several things amaze me about this situation:
>
>1. From what I can gather, both Ruben and Clay are signed with RCA
>records. Last year, only the first place winner (don't care to
>remember her name) was signed to a label and marketed. Next, RCA will
>have them touring together;
>
>2. Clay is being promoted as the next Boy Wonder, the best thing next
>to sliced white bread. Truth is, he came in second. Not first place,
>but second;
>
>3. The chick that won last year is still being promoted by her record
>label, as evidenced by the fact that her debut CD is still on the
>Billboard charts;
>
>4. Don't think America was (or ever will be) ready for an African
>American winner on American Idol, no matter how talented, cute and
>cuddly he is.. If this wasn't the case, then Ruben would be on a
>whirlwind tour of the planet promoting his upcoming album;
>
>5. In regards to the record label, they are seriously pushing the heck
>out of Clay and probably expect Ruben's album to sell by word of mouth.
>And reviews of Clay's album were not flattering in the least bit.
>
>Which is why I propose this. Surely no one I know bought Clay's album.
>We did not help to put him "on the map". But we can do it for Ruben,
>who by far has the better voice. Aiken's "Measure of a Man" sold
>612,859 copies in its first week, giving him the third-highest debut
>of the year, (50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Trying" is number one for this
>year).
>
>On Tuesday, December 9, Ruben Studdard's CD "Soulful" hits stores
>nationwide. PLEASE go out and buy one or two copies and make sure your
>friends buy a copy also. With our dollars, we can surpass Clay's first
>week's numbers and remind RCA who they should have been promoting all
>along. And also remind America who won their competition.Put December
>9th on your calendar and if you can - please purchase Ruben's CD and
>send this email to people you know. We've got to get the word out.

With no offense inteneded, I would never buy a CD by either of these guys.  There are so many gospel artists who need my (our) support.

Which brings me to another thought:  I would like to see a list of favorite CD's from 4Hisglory, mjfletner, Hammondman!, SisterT, jamesearljonesjr, and the other heavy players on this site.

Thank you SisterT and B3Wannabe.

(I weigh in at 250 - and I'm not a heavy player - but I keep the bench from moving!) :lol:

This is waaayyyyy late.  I like Ruben, but I think Clay is a much better singer in the technical sense.  Ruben sounds out of breath to me.

I was watching the American Idol Christmas Show and Clay Aiken was the host!  He introduced all the singers and leading to and after commercial breaks, etc.  Ruben came out and sang maybe 2 songs--one of them I believe w/Clay.  Now, my comment--why wasn't Ruben the host if he was the American Idol?  Why is the runner up hosting the dog gone show?  Because Ruben needs to get a grip.  Could it be poor diction, poor reading skill (the que cards and monitor prompts) or what?  It's like, "Just sing, boy--that's all you can do."

If I was Ruben (thank God I'm not) but if I was, I would have been insulted that the runner up hosted the show, got the most air time, and I sang two songs.

Ohhh...plus Ruben's tongue (yes you see people's tongue often when they sing  :o ) was as blue as the border on this web page because he must have eaten a blue lollipop, popcicle or bubble gum---something.  That was awful. Insult to injury.

And, why do some of these entertainers wear big ole' parka winter coats on stage?  Under hot lights, here he is at 300 lbs with a big ole white winter coat on!!!  He looked like frosty the snowman in the hood.  And, sweating profusely, singing out of breath with a blue tongue!!!

For a brief moment, I was embarrassed for him.

My opinion too about the being ready for a black American Idol.  From my previous post, I obviously feel like skin color has nothing to do with it.  Black folk (and white folk too) are good at digging their own graves.  Except with black folk, there's fewer of us so it sticks out more.  I am not a person who's quick to play the race card.  People like Ruben dig their own graves---he did on the show as he displayed very little repoire with the audience, people skills, verbal skills, etc.  Just grinning like he was looking for directions to the mall or something.

Digging their own graves (as for entertainers)
When Whitney Houston first became popular (I'm old enough and was an adult when she first made it) I went to her concert tour the after her 2nd album w/I Wanna Dance With Somebody.  Whitney was like the black Barbara Streisand!  So elegant, all the beautiful gowns, and sequens.  She changed closed several times and sang her encore, The Greatest Love of All in a beautiful gown and tiara head dress.  Look at her now.  Washed up w/Bobby Brown, a suspected crack addict, caught with marijuana in the airport, arguing on national television w/Diane Sawyer (or was it Barbara Walters) w/her husband sweating profusely needing a drink or something.

And, then there's Justin and Janet  :wink:

See, when I mess up, it's just not national news....lol.
