I'm not from Cali, but there's this church in Los Angeles that seems to be really on fire for Christ and they seem pretty cool.  You may want  to check them out.

If I were you I'd check out South Central, around Liemert Park. I heard there is a great Jazz scene there..and its a nice area

If you are looking for a place to play, I'd suggest you hit up the larger churches and ask around. Of course Mike Bereal is at West Angeles. also check out Michael L. Loyd on facebook, he seems to be a big time guy out there, and may know of churches in need.

churches have church newspapers out here and there are about 3 or 4 churches that need piano/organ players..
