5 String Research

If you can afford to pay less than 200.00 a month for 3 months, I'll say go to americanmusical.com. They take your first payment out of your CHECKING account, then send you the bass and take 2 more payments(1 each month for 2 months) My point is: 1)You can get a quality bass 2)Make payments while you playing the bass 3)Dont hav to come up with a lump some all at once. I've bought an RD300 Ibanez 4string, Schecter Stiletto 5string, Fender Jazz 4 and 5 string, and Fender Jazz Deluxe 4 string. Not all at once. It made it affordable to me. Now I have a 5 string Tobias( THE LORD IS HIGH ABOVE THE HEAVENS)  :D

Thanks Guys... I went to The GC last night and picked up a 5 string.

It was more than I expected to pay but I just had to get it... Yamaha TRB 1005.

I played all that was on my list that was avaliable at the store... The GC had didn't have as wide of a variety of basses as they did last week.
They are running a sale however (And Austin, does call itself, the "LIVE MUSIC CAPITAL of the WORLD", so it was slimmer pickings than my last visit.
I played Ibanez's new and USED, there was a BTB405 used, a SR506 Used, SRX705 that I liked, (The majority of folks that try out these basses had them set to a Punk Rock machine, so I attempted to get the sounds I wanted with no success) The Schecter Stilletto 5 was the leader, I am sure the PUNK ROCK,crowd hadn't touched it, because it sounded very bright... everything that I heard the EMG pickups offer.   I made sure to play it through a used Crate AMP to better simulate what it would sound like through my AMP.  & in the corner, my wife was browsing and said WOW, look at this one.  It was a YAMAHA TRB1005, I played them one after the other...my wife liked the Schecter Better, I said one second... and I dropped the bass, and boosted the mid, ever so slightly and My eyes lit up... :o I was in love... after my wife & daughter talked me into paying the $200 more than I wanted...(She saw my excitment, she is such a good wife) My daughter said get two..LOL!  I took her home, still haven't named her yet, still in awe that I have a new bass.

So I guess you can say, behind every good bass player is a good woman or two...

Here's to getting used to a 35" scale..
Thanks for all  yalls input
