My first bass was a Crestline.  It was a really bad P-Bass copy.

Then I got (in order, I think)

A 1970 something Fender Jazz (eventually stolen)
A 1979 Music Man Sabre (sold it in 1997)
    A 1983 Alembic Spoiler (Traded it )
A 1993 Ken Smith Burner Deluxe 5 string (sold it)
A 1987 Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe (sold it)
    A 1974 Alembic Series I (sold it)
A 1979 Alembic Series II (sold it)
A 1987 Alembic Series I (intend to keep forever)
A 2000 Alembic Mark King / Series II (intend to keep forever)
A 1998 Hanewinkel Ceres Artist 6 string (my main church bass)
A 2001 Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass (sold it)
    A 2003 Lakland Skyline 55-02 (sold it)
A 1998 Hanewinckel Arpeggio Artist 6 string fretless (still have)
    A 2004 Marchlewski 5-string Custom (still have)
A 2005 Music Man Bongo (still have)
    [/list:u]

I think I have it straight.  I've spent a lot of time buying used basses, playing them for a while, then selling them for about what I paid for them and adding a few more bucks to move up the food chain.

    Peace,

    James

From start to now:
Peavey Foundatioin S  4 string
Spector NS2B 4 String
Kramer Ferrington Acoustic 4 string
Zon Sonus Special 5 string
Gibson Classic Tobias 5 string
Pedulla Thuderbass 5 string
Pre-Gibson Tobias Basic 5 string
Ken Smith CR 5 string
Modulus Graphite Q5 string
Lakland Deluxe 55 94 5 string
Ken Smith Black Tiger 6 string

I sold or traded all except the Ken Smith 6
The only bass I'm really wanting now is a Pre-Gibson Tobias 5 string either a classic or signature.

Peace,
