Pt. 2 "Other Scale Usage"
« on: February 20, 2006, 11:42:11 AM »
Ok...this will be short.

Learn Pentatonic scales.  Learn their sound.  Learn them up 2 octaves.  This is used aaaaalllll over gospel music.  You will recognize it when you hear it.  You can use these to solo or to add in that quick little riff in the space between the groove.

This is how they are built.

Major: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6
Minor: 1, b3, 4, 5, b7

If you are playing in a major key, use the major.  Minor key, use the minor from the root.

Good lesson man...I didn't think about practicing moving my pentatonics up octives.  Got to add that to my practice routine.  Man...I'm going to be up to 3 hours a night once it's said and done.

By the way...We lift our hands by Kurt Car is major pentatonic starting with the 2 and going to 6.  Just a little bonus info
