I'm really thinking about this being my first 6 string.

The bass player at our church has that bass. It has 5 knobs instead of the 4 you see in the picture. It sounds alright when he plays but Im new to bass. It feels alright. He got it autographed by Steve Bailey. I got him to play mine one night http://www.rondomusic.net/sb26.html. I think mine sounded brighter but it may have been the settings or different string gagues. I say go for it you cant lose at $199. They had thouse at $199 during christmas so the $199 ones could be returns but I guess you have to email them to find out. Rondo music ran out of the bass I had and I emailed them and they found a display model. When I got it it was never even played from the looks of it. You can always sell that bass at that price and probably get the same amount of money back if not more for it. Then use that money towards another 6 string.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.

When I was shopping for a 6string bass that was one of my option until I found out how small the neck was a how cheaply it was made(quality).  If it is something you want to practice on to see if you would like a 6-string it maybe perfect but if you are a seriously thinking about playing it all the time this bass is not the one.

Well I know I like 6, I've played a lot of them at the music store down the street the cheapest is $500 something. I don't want to spend that much since I know I'me a 4 string player. I own a 5 I love it but I'm still a 4 string player. I wanted 35 inch scale for a 6 string I dont want a plastic nut. and I want active eq for a 6 and still not spend much. A 2 or 3 band eq is not important to me either way but there is more you can do with 3 bands.

I want a 6 for home use to go with my 5 string at home.

Remember always when you buy a bass, you get what you pay for! The price on that bass is really low whcih means cheaps woods were mostlikely used in making them. What does that mean? Unclear sound and quicker wear. This is especialy so with multiple string basses that have higher tension on the neck. It will tend to bow or warp giving you intonation prblems. Other this to consider is the electronics. This bass will be either not active (no slapping for you  ??? or have terrible sound. I'd stay away. save up a little more and muy a known brand like Ibanez (500 for six string) or Carvin (800 for six). If you buy this you'll probably get frustrated with the sound and end up buying a higher end bass anyway with little payback on that one.

Points are duely noted but I would just not buy a six before spending more then $350. Guess I'm gonna have to go used.

That bass has something on it active, I own 2 basses and both of them make great slappers and of them is fretless.

My Fender's body is basswood, and if I'm not mistaken my Ibanez is also made of basswood.
So what is Basswood?

Even if you are on a budget, don't go for the cheapest thing out there.  Remember, life is too short to settle for a cruddy sounding bass (or settle for anything else for that matter).  I would also suggest saving up for something a little better and it doesn't have to be real expensive either.  A lot of people like active basses for slap, but there are plenty of great sounding passive basses that can cover a variety of styles.  When Larry Graham first slapped his Fender Jazz, I don't think there was any such thing as an active bass.

Basswood is Linden Wood or Tilia,  but last I checked most Ibanez were made of Ash and Fenders were either poplar or ash depending on country of origin all of them sporting maple necks . Older Fenders were completely maple and some were ask before the got cheap and switched to poplar to save a buck or two since most people go buy an instrument never pay mind too wood types at least until they start shopping for expensive basses of get taught of the different qualities on acoustic sound from different woods.

Basswood is not a good acoustic wood.

I have an old mid 70's Fender Jazz bass with a Hip Shot tuner on it and I live it. I prefer that over a bass with active electronics.
It's a bad thing when your battery starts to die on you in the middle of a gig and you don't have a bypass switch to
go from active to passive electronics.

I wanted a cheap 5 string because I'm a drummer that also plays bass and didn't want to spend a lot of green if I wasn't going to dig it. I found a cheap deal on Ebay. It was by a company called Galviston. The 5 string cost me about $180.00 plus shipping. It has passive electronics and only has one truss rod in the neck, so you have to baby it a little. I don't know how long it will last, but for now it's great. I've already made the money back I spent on it. It needed some major work right out of the box, but after adjusting the neck, dressing the frets and just spending some quality time with it, it's an awesome bass. But it still doesn't beat out my Fender Jazz...LOL

Just a drummers view point...
