Losing the beat!
« on: February 27, 2006, 01:24:48 PM »

I've been playing for a while but I still mess up alot when it comes to filling and chops. I find my hands and feet don't know how to come out of the fills or that i lose my sense of timing.

Anyone got any practice tips for having a stronger sense of timing?
Any general co-ordination or maybe left handed exercises?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!   :) :) :)

wrong spelling.......metronome! practice to a metronome....dont worry about the rolls now buddy, sounds like you may need to jus work on a solid beat for a while, the fills will come in due time, i remember when i first started, i asked my cousin how to do a fill??? lol lord knows when they came i was fillen up anything that could be filled, so trust man, keep practicing man and you'll be straight!

Just approach every obstacle with optimistic attitude. Eventually, you'll be at the top of that mountain, instead of looking at the summit from the bottom.  :D :D :D :D :D :D

while your playing the song your playing, try and feel the beat. it helps with your timing to count the beats in your head. When you do your chops or fills, do whatever you want, but you have to keep track of your counting in your head. After a while, you should be able to feel what te beat is without counting. A metronome helps a lot!! Once you get that timing down, the possibilities are endless.
