Any good bass for under $500
« on: February 21, 2006, 01:36:58 PM »
I started playing about 7 months and grabbed a starters bass I think its a SX. Now I'm ready to step it up a little. So any suggestions for a bass to grab for about $500?

This is my main bass $400 I put Dean Markley Blue steels. This bass is GRAND. This bass is well beyond my skills. I've had 2 bass players with about 25 to 30 years of playing compliment how good this bass is. This is why this is my main bass.

I will agree with what they said. I owned an Ibanez six string I got for a little more than  500 bucks and it was sweet. I used it for a few years as my primary bass and i loved it. My brother in law keeps using them also, he loved them. They have decent sound and are very sturdy and usualy good woods are used.

I would agree with BBD on that.  Check local papers, music stores, and eBay for used instruments.  If you find a nice used Fender Precision or Fender Jazz in the $500 range, go for it.  But you need to make certain you can tell whether the Fender is passive or active (costs more, usually has"Deluxe" in the name).  You can usually find a 4 or 5 string Peavey Cirrus in the $600 - 700 range.  These basses are grossly under-rated.  It would be worth waiting and saving up an additional couple hundred.  If you have a Cirrus, you really wouldn't need another bass.

Peace,

James

The Peavey Cirrus 4 5 6 that is roughly $400 to $600 is an awsome bass, that feels wonderful in my hands.
