Listen to spank, or who ever your favorite drummer is. Mine is SPanky and he gives me a bunch of ideas. If you tried everything you thought you could, try praying. There's nothing that prayer, can't fix. Pray for new ideas or concepts....It works.

I play with Snare, Bass, 4 toms, hats, 2 splashes, 1 china, 2 crashes and 2 rides. I broke my kit down one night, not because I really wanted to, but I was sick...and didnt feel like setting up my whole kit.

So I had snare, bass, 2 toms, hats and 1 ride. I must say, I never held a pocket or groove better than I did then, and my fills were so creative. We may not like it, because we like the variety in sound and tone...BUT if we can learn to get different sounds by placement rather than equipment, we would all be able to get to the next level.

God Bless.

I like dat advise...even though, my kit is only 1 snare, Bass, 3 toms, hats, 1 splash, 1 crash, and 1 ride...and I still suck..of coz, it's probably has to do with the fact dat I'm a beginner...lol

Not ebing funny bu you don't need help you need to keep practicing. You are you and new at this... Earn your stripes. By instructional material instead of video games. Learn to read music. That is the best aadvice anyone can give you. Once you learn to read you won't rely on man you will glen from the spirit. Right now you haven't done all you can.

So son, head to the woodshed. :)

Everyone that has responded to you gave some real sound and great advice.  I'll just add to that:  listen to alot of music (various styles) and distintively listen to what the drummer is doing.  Experiment with some of the things you hear.  I've learned that your imagination will eventually spark you tol develop your own style and from your experimenting you'll start to produce some really nasty stuff.  Not only will it help you to increase but you will have alot of fun doing it.
Thank you and may God bless you,

ACTUALLY THIS IS A GREAT IDEA- ONLY THING I WOULD ADD IS A RIDE CYMBAL AND FLOOR TOM- WHEN I HAVE DONE THIS AND HAVE HAD LESS TO HIT OR FOCUS ON TRYING TO HIT- BECAUSE IT IS SOO FUN- I HAVE COME UP WITH SOME COOL STUFF THAT I COULD USE AND APPLY TO ANY SET 9 PC OR 3 PC
