Yamaha DGX-205 and Sound Module
« on: October 05, 2006, 10:44:06 AM »
Im fairly new to the keys and I wanna buy a DGX-205 because its affordable and I think its a keyboard that I will grow into until Im well enough advanced  to purchase the Motifs...Rolands...Korgs. Also what type of module would be a good one to run through this board. :)

You may want to check into getting the higher up models of the Portable Grand Yamaha. The dgx 505 and up. They have alot of professional like sounds. Then you probably wont need to get a module. Many people buy keyboard and then keep buying modules only to use a few sounds off of them. You can try layering alot of sounds to get phat sounds. Or you can get the lower level professional model keyboards, the synthesizers.

I agree with mysteryman. Try to get a better sounding keyboard. From my experience: Some modules take up space and become annoying after a while.

Thank yall for the advice but I fell to mention that Im not the M.O.M im the 2nd keyboardist. The M.O.M holds down all the melodies. I just fill-in with the organ, strings etc. So my question is is the DGX-205 still a good purchase without the sound module.

I would suggest if your local music store carries it, instead of the yamaha dgx series, get a Casio WK-series. dont let the Casio name fool you. they put good things in there (piano, ep, strings layering, spilt) and it has a very drawbar organ simulator with adustable drawbar" buttons. Usually Yamaha beats Casio, but in that price range the WK series works. While I was a manager at Sam Ash i recommended that board to a lot of "pros" that needed a quik liteweight board that sounds good but wont cost a grip. They loved it.

Casio WK-3000, 3200,3500,3800

hope this helps

I agree, usually Yamaha beats Casio, but when comparing the DGX series to the WK Casio series, Casio wins. I don't even like Casio, but I liked the WK board I played better than the Yamaha DGX 205 I got.

I have the 505 and I love it!

I only paid 450 for it as well, so it was very affordable

Casio is not midi as midi friendly as Yamaha but they have nice DSP effect that make the board.
