New Instrument: Violin
« on: September 17, 2007, 10:34:02 PM »
Good evening...new to the site, so go easy on me. :)

I've been playing piano/keyboards for more than 10 years, but mostly traditional gospel songs in a Baptist church.  I would like to learn how to play the violin, starting next week.

Does anyone currently play the violin?  If so, can you give me a few suggestions on starter songs?  Also, any tips on learning to play?

Thanks!

Check out one of the versions of Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday." The best is the version with Ray Nance, who doubled on trumpet and violin, playing a beautiful violin solo. Mahalia Jackson does the vocal. A classic peformance. I know it's available on iTunes.
