Can you play the piano or keyboard and if you can, at what status?   Bishop Cole

Your first step is to get you somebody who can personally teach you how to play the organ.  There are so many buttons and drawbars on there that if you don't got somebody there to help you, then u might not get very far.

Also, I would suggest learning more about music theory.  You should know about things like scales, progressions, chords, etc.  If you don't learn your music theory, then it's gonna be a real struggle learning the keyboard or organ.

I also suggest learning how to play in every key cuz an organ don't got no transpose button.  If all you can play in is C, good luck trying to carry a service in just one key w/no transpose button.  You know how church folks is, they can't never stay in one key, they always go to the very key that you don't know that well.
Real musicians play in every key!!!

I think they should hire a musician and you should continue to learn while you are training. You may be motivated to learn (which takes time) but a learning musician can also damage a service while practicing and the congregation is distracted while you are chopping at the keys.

I'm not being harsh but honest. Stay here and learn all you can and pray. God see's your heart.

If you're really seriuos about playing stop by my education site at www.samsmuzikco.com/education.htm  I have workbooks that will teach you basic chords to get you started. Each workbook divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced musician so don't worry if you can't grasp it right away. Just go the the next workbook. Work on practicing the scales, chord structures and basic songs in each book. Download the midi ifles and learn to recognize basic chord patterns from different songs. I have a preacher chords page at www.samsmuzikco.com/preacher.htm . This will helo your learn the concept and chords for backing up the preacher. This is a my ceash musician course but you must be willing to apply yourself to what I have in the workbooks and the site until you find a formal teacher. Feel free to contact me anytime for assisitance at Samuelt197@aol.com .
