For me it doesn't matter whther it is a b3 or a c3, just as long as it is in excellent fully working order!

Like a piano, each organ sounds a little different.  However, a B3 and C3 are basically the same instrument in a different body so the sound from one to the other should not be to drastic.

I have an A100/122 Leslie. B3/C3/A100 no real difference other than wood.

I have an A100/122 Leslie. B3/C3/A100 no real difference other than wood.

i'm not sure about this. I learned on a A100/122, and now I play a B3/147. I prefer the A100 hands down.

Many people say that but I think that there are small differences with all three of them. I play a B3 with a 122 leslie and it will get"UGLY" in service real quick!  Bishop Cole

there is a little more difference that wood, but its an obvious one......A-100 has an internal speaker

About wat Al i think was sayin bout the 771. It is the loudest speaker created by hammond. It is 4 times as powerful as a 122,122xb,122t,147...222...pretty much all of them except those will 11 pin plugs escept the 122 xb. It will definetly not have that warm tube sound but it will do damage 2 many peoples ears if used correctly.

Yes this is true because the frequency is set lower on the A100 than the other two, but the leslie is what brings the organs to life.  Bishop Cole

Just wanted to comment on this post.
The frequency actually isn't lower on the A100. True, the A100 is more bassy only when the organ techs wire the Leslie connector kit to the built-in amp/speaker terminals in the A100. However, if they wire it from the G-G terminals as they are supposed to, the sound is identical to the C-3/B-3.
Sound organists like the sound from the A100 when it is incorrectly wired because it causes more overdrive and louder bass. However, it can shorten Leslie amp life because the impedence (ohm-load) from the A100 amp is different than the impedence from the G-G terminals; and it could shorten Leslie driver life from the overdrive.
I agree the sound seems to be a little more attractive from an improperly connected A100-122/147 setup. However, for the clean Hammond sound, and maximum equipment life, it does need to be connected in the correct manner.

I also wanted to comment on this one....2 possibilities as to why you prefer the A100 you played. The first one could be in the Leslie hookup as I described in the previous post withthe different sound or the most likely reason is the difference in the 122 and 147 leslie sound.
The 122 is smoother, most people prefer it for jazz music. The 147 has a more harsh sound, and contrary to what people always write on here, it seems to be preferred in gospel music and rock music(classic rock). I think some people just see a leslie and assume its the 122 just from the look of it, and in reality it may be a 147.

I can't decide! I got the c3 at home and the b3 at the church. But in all honesty I love the sound on the c3 a little more than the b3.

I personally am partial to the A-100's as well.  I own one at home and it has a deep tone bass.  However, it really depends on the individual personality of each organ.  Whether it be an A-100, B-3, or C-3, the individual organ and leslie combo play a big role in the kind of sound and feel you get.  As in a previous post, some leslies give different feel and sounds.  Most of all, I want one that is in GOOD WORKING ORDER  ;)

If you were to place 2 of the same model organs (As, Bs, Cs, or RTs) in the same room, hooked up to 2 of the same model Leslie speakers and 2 PR-40 tone cabinets (minus the A-100 since one is already equipped with the PR-40), you are logically supposed to produce the same sound, but you don't.  The age of the wood encasing the speakers have an impact on the way the sound waves bounce off of them.  Also, each instrument is hand crafted by different people in different model years, and each instrument is treated differently once it is purchased.  So, no Hammond organ sounds exactly the same, but I would obviously prefer Hammonds with a deep bass and a screaming treble.  The A-100s that I've played on seem to have that combination more than the other models, but the model doesn't really matter to me.

C3 all the way. I grew up in my home church playing a C3. As long as it's tuned and you have a powerful leslie, you can't be that.

I have a leslie 771 and a leslie 122 hooked up to my new hammond b3. the leslie 771 isn't quite warm enough. To make it sound right you need that leslie 122. The 771 is loud but it sounds too clean and plastic. You will need a leslie 147 or leslie 122 to warm up the sound and add that 3 dimensional edge to it

Yes, I still tell people that you cannot beat the 122 leslie sound. I will live and die with that leslie by my side!!  ;)  Bishop Cole

A....you kno wat...that is a good idea u got right there.....to use the 122 for the warm sound and the 771 to back it up.....but i have 1 question......how do u have both of those cabinets connected to 1 organ because u cane connect a 6 pin leslie and a 11 pin leslie on the same organ.....unless u have the 122 xb

I have heard that they have the same insides but they sound different to me. I notice a difference in the B3 organs with the square drawbars versus the round drawbars.
Vision without action is just day dreaming. I miss practicing.
