I have to agree.  The 122's and 147's do give the warmest "Hammond" sound.  At the church that I am playing for, they just purchased an A-100 that came with a 750 Leslie.  True it's a solid state and doesn't have tubes in it.  However, it's not quite giving me the sound that I am looking for.  It was a great deal because the organ and speaker only cost $2995.  So I was thanking the Lord for guiding us to that deal.  The organ is in great working order too.  But that speaker just isn't doing it for me. It's an 11 pin connector.  The church had a 21E Leslie speaker which is a 6 pin connection that was hooked up to an old hammond D-series organ from the 1940's.  So I suppose I will have to deal with the 750 for a while. :-\

A....you kno wat...that is a good idea u got right there.....to use the 122 for the warm sound and the 771 to back it up.....but i have 1 question......how do u have both of those cabinets connected to 1 organ because u cane connect a 6 pin leslie and a 11 pin leslie on the same organ.....unless u have the 122 xb

Hammond made a different version of the Leslie 122 called the Leslie 122XB. It's the same as the leslie 122 except it has 11 pins.

PS. When you play an organ through these two leslies. The 771's grittyness coupled with the 122's beauty produces a rich organ tone.
IT WILL SOUND AWESOME

I was told that the C3 was identical to the B# except for the body style.
I guess not

No you're right, they are the same except for the wooden casing.  The only reason to prefer one over the other is whether or not you want your feet to be exposed when you're playing pedals.

Also, a Hammond cannot be tuned, and doesnt need to be.  You do need to oil it.

YOU KNOW WHAT? I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING.

I HAVEN'T POSTED OUT OF THIS WHOLE THREAD.

I PERSONALLY DON'T CARE WHICH MODEL I PLAY OUT OF THE B3 C3 AND A100.

REASON BEING IS B/C (IF YOU WANT TO ADDMIT TO IT OR NOT) EVER SINGLE ORGAN EVER MADE,(ok im exagerating a little)  DOESN'T HAVE AN IDENTICAL SOUND TO ANOTHER ORGAN OF THE SAME EXACT MODEL.

THINK ABOUT IT; EVERYONE KEEPS REPEATEDLY SAYING THAT THE B3 AND C3 HAS THE SAME EXACT GUTS, BUT YET IF YOU PLAY 2 B3'S OR C3'S RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER, YOU WILL HEAR AT THE VERY LEAST A SLIGHT DIFFERENCE IN TONE,OVERDRIVE,BASS,TREBLE,ECT.

IF YOU DON'T BELEIVE ME READ THIS.

EVERY ORGAN DIDN'T GO THROUGH THE SAME TORTURE THAT THE NEXT ORGAN WENT THROUGH. SOME ORGANS WERE BOUGHT AND TOURED, OTHERS WERE BOUGHT AND PUT IN CHURCHS, OTHERS WERE BOUGHT AND PUT INTO BASEMENTS FOR COMPLETE TORTURE FOR PRACTICE, SOME WERE BOUGHT AND SAT IN LIVE LIVING ROOMS AND COLLECTED DUST, AND SOME WERE BOUGHT AND PUT INTO STUDIOS, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.

SO, SINCE THE USE OF EVERY ORGAN WASN'T USED TO THE SAME EXTENT, EVER ORGAN ISN'T IN THE SAME CONDITION AS THE NEXT ONE.

EVAN IF THE ORGAN WAS SERVICED REGUALRLY IT ALSO COULD HAVE SOME DAMAGE THAT CAN'T BE SERVICED, FIXED, OR REPLACED.

SO IN CLOSING (lol), THERE IS NO WAY THE YOU CAN SAY THAT ONE ORGAN SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE OTHER.

JUST SAY THAT IT HAS BEEN MESSED UP BETTER THAN THE OTHER. lol

You're exactly right.  The difference in sound between a B3 and a C3 is the same as the difference in sound between one B3 and another.

The year actually has a lot to do with the differences in sound.  The real early ones used wax caps which tend to drift, the ones from the 70s they werent as careful as they were about to end production.

man you can give me any of the three work horses as long as it has been serviced

dont give me a ongan with dirty contacts and worn out busbars

If I had to choose I would say  a C3 because the casing is enclosed I am not trying to put on a show with my footwork

 ;D

I agree.  As long as it is serviced and in good working order I can make it sound off.

You are right.  The B3 and C3 are the EXACT SAME instrument.

The C3 has a case made to match a church interior.  It also has a solid back on it so you can't see up a woman's dress -- if for instance the organ was sitting on a raised stage.

Both are superior to an A-100 if ya axe me.

Because the B3 and C3 were the top of the line.  Made to be used with an external tone cabinet or leslie.

The A100 was more for home use or for where space was a consideration.

Yes, but it's the exact same organ, with speakers and a smaller case.  I like them better than B3s or C3s because they are easier to move . . . and the added speakers are nice.

I have to agree with many other organists. Our church just recently got a A-100. And I like it better than a B-3 or a C-3, mainly because of how it has internal speakers which makes hearing yourself playing easiler. Secondly is the bass which is produced when you have a powerful leslie and the internal speakers. ;D ;D ;D
Only what you do for Christ will last.

We SHOULD be talking about cabinet, because other than the speakers in the A100 that's the only difference.  But some people remain convinced there is a difference in sound between the models.

B3 and C3 are the same.  So if you think you prefer the sound of one over the other, what you really preferred was the sound of that specific organ on that specific leslie in that specific place you played it on.  You could play the same kind of organ in a diff. room or with a different leslie (even if it's the same type of leslie) and it would sound diff.  With this kind of analog equipment it's just like old studio gear, no 2 specific instruments will sound exactly the same even if they have the same model name.

But, just to clear it up, the B3 and C3 are the SAME instrument with a different look.
