when I grow up, I will learn this chord too
. Post this w/theory numbers (I understand it better when away from keyboard).
From what I understand, this is how T taught U:
In the key of Db [
Bass Note/ Chord in relation to maj.scale]
Bb/FBbCDb ==> [
6/ 6 minor9 chord (3rd inversion)]
Eb/GbBbDbF ==> [
2/ 4 major chord (root pos.) ]
Ab/AbBbCEb ==> [
5/ 5 major9 chord (root pos.) ]-[
theoretically, a 5 has a strong inclination to resolve to the 1.]
Db/AbDbGb ==> [
1/ 1sus4 chord (2nd inversion)] --
a sus chord normally wants to resolve (to the 1), , hence we see it hereDb/AbDbF ==> [
1/ 1 chord (2nd inv.)]
hence this is a sweet
6-2-5-1.
I hope this is what you meant.
For the progression I gave, we have to use the Fb major scale to analyze it since it is in Dbm (which is the relative minor scale of FbM, ie, use the same notes):
Fb=1; Gb=2; Ab=3; Bbb= 4; Cb=5; Db=6; Eb=7
in DbmAb/ Gb-B-^Eb-E [^= trill] ==>
3/ 5sus4 chord (this is a Cbsus4 chord because we don't hold the Eb, which is the 3rd)A/ E-Ab-^B-Db
Ab/ E-Gb-^A-B ==>
3/ 1 sus2 chord (
this is not a 1sus4add9 chord because the A orBbb is not held with the chord)Db/ B-Eb-E-Ab
(can repeat or...)
C/Bb-Eb-Gb ==>
#5/ 7minor chord (2nd inver.)
B/ A-Db-E, Gb ==>
5/4 major chord (root),
2 noteA/ Ab-^B-Db-E ==>
4/ 6minor (7th) (2nd inver.)
[I've put the 7th in brackets for consistency's sake--Since the B/ Cb is not held, this is just a 6minor chord. The Cb would make it a minor7th.](repeat)
another variation with the last chord is to do this:
A/Ab-^B-Db-E, B-Eb-Ab, E-Ab-B, C-E-A, A-B-E ==>
4/ 6 minor (7th), 5major6 (no5), 1major, 4 minor, 4sus2Gb-Db/ E-^Ab-A-B-Db ==>
2-6/6minor11 (repeat from start)
I hope this helps Virtue
