Remember that topic I posted where I was asking what I should do if they lock up the organ?

Well

They Locked it up!

So what now?....................I mean this cuts my practice time by more than half. And I'm sure it means that they don't want me playing there.

I talked to the M.O.M. about it and he said this "It's not to hinder you from growin', it's just that I'm coming out of my own pocket to maintain it, so I don't want nobody gettin' on there."
By this I believe that he somewhat has a right to lock it up...........which is keeping me from getting mad. So I've found out why they are locking it up..................But when you think about it........................this has to be aimed at stopping ME from practicing there because there are three main organ players at my church (they talked about getting three keys made).
And I'm the only Organ player under 50. Better yet I'm the only person under 25 that has the nerve to even sit at the Organ. So what are they really trying to do?

Through it all I've foound that my Pastor and Youth leader are actually thinking of what to do for me in this situation   :'(  and are of no part to keeping me from playing and practicing. Now that's love..........................

I'm still waiting on God.

But maybe HE'S waiting on ME to make a move based on what he's given me.

I have a friend who suggested that maybe it's time for me to wait and not play keys for a while. seriously?...................................I mean you reap what you sow......If you sow nothing you get nothing.......No practice no play.

My Twin has suggested that I go ahead and take up that offer that has been issued (you know the pastor that wants to pay me).
But it's hard to have hard feelings, 'cause I got saved at this church  :'( . And that was before I was playing keys.

Can I hear you guys' input on the situation?

Better yet............................WHAT WOULD YOU DO.
and let's remember that I'm young on the keys.
I Love You!!!

Bruh Kell
First of all continue to pray about the situation, then don't stop playing b/c it will only make you depressed(I know from experience) and there is nothing wrong with exploring your options.  I just came out of a similar situation like yours and I considered doing what you did and I became miserable at the place where I worship and ended up leaving so pray about.  The steps of a good man, are ordered by the Lord.

  • "Shock and awe" was just for Iraq...or was it?

Bruh Kell, based on your story, I have a couple comments.  First, you seem very passionate about wanting to play the organ.  I think you should not stop even for one day.  It sounds like it's impossible for you to practice without using the church organ.  So, you need to get on that organ somehow.

Second, work off of their reasoning for locking the organ.  The M.O.M. claims he's coming out of pocket to maintain the organ.  If you have the means, offer to come out of YOUR pocket for any maintenance that needs to be done.  If the M.O.M. balks at that offer, somebody is not being honest.  At that point, I would say it's time to explore your option with the other church.  Nobody should be subjected to working with dishonest people.

I agree with both playhear and mr.dj. All i can say it continue to pray about the situation. Some times if God is wanting us to move, he'll cause things to happen to get you to go. So you continue to pray about it b/c if its meant for you to be there you will..! I'll be praying with you

  • Let's Praise Jesus Together!

Unless you are absolutely certain that someone is doing this to keep you from growing, then as a saint of GOD you owe them the benefit of the doubt.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt will also give you peace, since the devil won't be able to plant ideas that may very well not be true, and sow discord and strife.

Now, don't get angry, but if it were me . . . I'd lock the organ too. People don't understand that it takes upkeep to maintain instruments, and i think it completely reasonable to lock up musical equipment so that it stays in good condition for worship in the church. They have a good point there.

The best move from here may be to step out on faith and purchase your own private instruments.

Well,

I would ask my self this.

How many years has this organ been at your church.

Before now, was there ever a problem with people getting on the organ and tearing stuff up.

Now how long have you been learning about  organ.  And since you have expressed an interest in learning how to play, how long was it before they decided to lock it up.

Now you could be bold and say,

"If you are concerned about children or non-musicians  getting on the organ and tearing it up, then I understand completely.  However would it be possible to also let me have a key so that I can continue my practice sessions...... especially since locking the organ is not really aimed at hindering me from continuing to learn".

Now if they refuse to give you a key, and there has never been a previous problem with people tampering with the instruments, then I'm sorry to say bruh, but they just don't want you on the organ.

You should take it in stride, use it as motivation, and invest in your own instruments to practice on at home.

if they give you a key...... then probelm solved.

just my 2 cents

Is there one among the three "keyed" members that you would be comfortable taking lessons from?  If so, suggest that you make an arrangement to learn from him or her.  Build your skills, their comfort level with you and everyone's trust in each other at the same time.

If this arrangement cannot be made and you feel strongly towards building your skills on the organ, go to the other church and feel NO GUILT,  Remember, your dedication is to the Lord and not to a particular building or a particular group of people.  Man is fallible.  Buildings made by man are just that.  Even when the buildings built by man are filled with the spirit, it's the spirit's doing, not the wood, nails, plaster, flesh and blood.

Peace & most sincere best wishes!

Kell, this sounds to me like these might be growing pains for you.  First of all, your commitment to this church based on the fact that you were saved there is a very laudable and refreshingly respectable sentiment from a young man nowadays. (showing my age by using a term like "nowadays") However, you should pray and dilligently seek God's guidance as to whether or not your loyalty to this church might be superceding your loyalty to follow him where ever he leads you. It sounds to me as if you may have a bit of uncertainty as to whether or not you are up to the task of being a paid musician at the other church. God understands that most of his blessings for us involve our moving out of our comfort zones but he loves us so much and wants to bless us so much that he often turns our comfort zones into places of unrest.

One thing that I hope you are really taking into consideration as a young person and as a young Christian is whether or not the church that made the offer to you is a place where you  personally can grow spiritually as well as in your musical ability. If the answer is yes, then you should dilligently ask God if this is where he wants you to be and forget about the sentiment you hold for the other church. You must remember that every bible believing, Christ centered, Holy Ghost filled church is God's Church so you should not think of it as LEAVING any given church, but as though you are being transferred from one place in God's great vineyard to another. I think if more Church folk realized this, then there wouldn't be so many churches with musicians fighting for playing time and other churches practicly begging for musicians to come there.
I am what God says I am, no less and no more.

You know I have a few thoughts that are running around in my head, but I want to say this... It used to be a time in the COGIC where we would LET the young people play on the instruments, and that is why we had musicians, thats how I learned how to play... I have never heard of such FOOLISHNESS in my life, now Im pretty sure that someone will disagree with me, and thats cool, but the whole locking the organ thing is kinda crazy to me... Bruh Kell you know, that I know where you come from, so I am REALLY confused... And you CANNOT practice organ on a keyboard, IMPOSSIBLE...
Now I'll give you some more at a later time, let me sleep on this...
