It is made of Phillipine Mahogany. It is one of the better kits in the $500 range. The hardware that comes with the kit is good stuff as well. I haven't heard anything negative with the wood. Great kit. Great Price!

I have one and it comes with double braced Yamaha hardware. They come with REMO heads. I know people who have used and are who are purchasing Rydeens for small gigs They sound great. Its a great kit for the price. Get that and upgrade to a set of B8 pros or AAX's and you good for a season.

I dont even think the shells are wood.  Very thick cardboard...I think?  ;D  Hey 3rd day when youre done with that set it could make a homeless man very happy!   :D

Just kiddin.  Its a good beginner set for the money.  Plus, Yamaha really doesnt make anything cheap.  Just inexpensive.

...This set is surprisingly popular among small churches with a really tight budget.  You know, churches that are starting out and stuff.  I played at a church a while back that had the YD Series which is now the Rydeen and they put a SuperKick 1 on the bass drum and it totally blew me away.  The set was Standard shells 12,13,16 (Classic config. for a church).  Overall, they're okay.
