HEY HAVE ANY OF YOU PLAYED THE NORD ELECTRO ORGAN/KEYBOARD I HEARD THAT ITS THE CLOSETS TO A REAL B3 OUT OF ALL THE OTHER PORTABLE ORGANS EVEN BETTER THAN HAMMOND OWN XK SERIES LET ME KNOW WHAT YALL THINK ABOUT THAT BOARD AND YOUR OPINION ON IT AND OTHER PORTABLE ORGANS

I HAVEN'T PERSONALLY PLAYED IT BUT, I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE B3. BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO SOME TWEAKING.

BUT PERSONALLY I THINK THAT THE BEST B3 IMATAION ISN'T AN ACTUAL KEYBOARD. I THINK THAT IT'S THE NATIVE INSTRUMENTS B4 II VST PLUG-IN. THIS THING SOUNDS AMAZING. WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT I THOUGHT IT WAS A REAL B3.

I HAVEN'T PERSONALLY PLAYED IT. (EXCEPT AT GUITAR CENTER) BUT NEVER IN A LIVE SETTING. I HAVE HEARD IT BEING PLAYED AT A JAZZ CLUB CONCERT. AND THAT THING HAD ME LOOKIN' ALL AROUND FOR A B3.

I haven't heard the Nord. I have the Roland Hammond VK8 organ module and its nice. Its a special feature on it sounds just like the leslie..where u put your hand over the area and the leslies sounds..flares up...God,,its sounds nice.,,but, i do a specialty where i put a cloth over it just for it to stay on longer...hahahaha. .thats my little trick..iam sharing with ya..  Which one did u get?

I love the organ and I'm tellin you the Nord is killin mostly all the portables I ever heard!  I hear it hooked up to a real leslie on Austin City Linits and almost couldn't tell the difference. (to th b3)  I'm gettin one.

I had one. I sold it about 2 years ago. I had the Nord Electro 61.

It was pretty good, but the XK3 is better to me. I've played them both.

You get people that are NORD followers and people that are VOCE V5/KEY5, as well as XK3 followers.

My reasons for liking the XK3 over the Nord are:

1. 3 drawbar sets (1 upper, 1 lower, 1 bass) - The Electro only has 2.
2. Full bass, not rollover - This means the lowest bass notes are just copies of the octave above it.
3. Drawbars not buttons.
4. Hammond-type presets.
5. Organish look.


The Electro is better in these categories:

1. WAAAAY LIGHTER...ONLY 13LBS!
2. The best EP sounds on the market for it's price range...EPs are better than on the Motif actually.
3. Trendy red color


After I sold it though, I kind of regretted it. I really liked those EPs, and since I play organ sometimes in concerts, it's good to have a light keyboard to carry around. When you buy the XK3, you're buying an organ. That's it. If you buy an Electro, be sure that you only want Piano and Organ sounds. There are no strings or additional sounds. You can however change some of the EPs, with downloads from the net.

If I was inclined, I'd get a Nord Electro and Lead rack for my M-Audio controller. The Nord Lead rack is probably one of the best synthesizers, next to the Moog, on the market.

Finally, from what I'm reading, there's a new upgrade out for the Electro, it may have a better organ sim in it, you probably want to check it out from a retailer. If they don't have rollover bass then I'd definately get it. If it's rollover, then I wouldn't. I'd get the XK3. I'm guessing that the organ is the MAIN thing you want it for, since you're posting in the organ forum and not the keyboard forum.

cool yea i like that heavy deep bass the way you explained the xk3 and electro was perfect i guess you like the xk3 better its a hard decision on which one to get im  a fan of deep bass do you know which one really puts out the power on the lower end????

Like I said, my Electro didn't have as deep bass as the XK3.

Now, if you're running through a good bass amp or speaker, you may not really tell the difference. Also, with an external leslie, they both sound about the same from the midrange up, but the bass on the Electro does rollover, while it doesn't on the XK3. Tie in that to the extra drawbars, solely for bass, with the extra 11-pin port for a leslie, and the XK3 is the winner, in my book....The Electro has neither of these. To plug an Electro into a leslie, you need a converter to change the 1/4 headphone jack to a 11-pin leslie port. Needless to say, with this option, you have to use an external leslie on/off switch, instead of the one built-in the Electro.

...If you more concerned about weight, get the Electro. It's still a good organ clone. When I had the Electro, I also had the Korg CX3 (which I still have), and I like the sound from the CX3 better.

I modded my CX3 to allow me to control my Motion Sound Pro3 speaker, which simulates a leslie better than the built-in simulator, using the onboard leslie on/off switch. With an additional modification, I can plug a leslie straight in....but I'll eventually sell it and get an XK3.

i've got both a cx-3 and a voce module.both are killer,the cx-e has a cool split function which almost lets you do real time performance on 1 keyboard (if you have some midi pedals for bass).my v3 is LIGHT!!!5 lbs with rack case.with 2 light controllers and a midi pedal board i have REAL B for less than 50 pounds!
