What do you do with your Left hand?
« on: March 20, 2006, 12:40:26 PM »
It's a common question for Keyboard players, but even MORE so with Organists, because you use your foot to run the bass.

I use it to adjust drawbar settings, the leslie, the vibrato, etc.  But I want to use it on the keys to make my music sound more full.

So if you use your foot to run the bass......What do you do with your left hand?

I use my left hand for switching the leslie speed, some left hand chords, and sometimes play some bass lines on the upper manual. I also adjust my drawbar settings when I first start playing the organ, otherwise everything is set up the way I like it.

Ditto, your left hand STILL has a lot of work to do! God Bless,  Bishop Cole

I agree with the above comments. I use my left-hand mainly for chords, but also for Leslie switch, and settings.

Your left hand is for the settings and the switch and also for making big chords which gives you a full and more complete sound out of the organ

I use my left hand to change drawbars, leslie, sometimes bass runs... I do alot of chords and licks with my left hand while i'm playing main chords with my right.  Once you develope your left hand, you can do a world of stuff that can help you get that full sound you're looking for.  I know the tough part is getting your left hand to do something totally different than your right.  Kind of like left brain vs right brain and trying to bring them together.  At times I also use my left hand to direct the choir... I have a VERY busy left hand ;)

With my left hand I usally play little licks but mostly play bass lines on the upper manual. I am am constantly changing the leslie speed with my left hand. I am trying to get to the point where I can play cords with my left and runs with my right. Because my instructor always tells my dont let your right hand outdo your left. What eva yo right do your left should to!!
