Following the Leader??? isnt that the object of the game????

I was an Aquarian Man when I first started playing.. I am very familiar with their heads and the Superkick2. In my humble opinion, it doesnt come close to an EMAD or EC3.

God Bless.

My reasons for not liking the SuperKicks are very valid. They heads don't allow you to actually tune the drum. Because of the foam glued to the plastic material the head cannot vibrate across the frquency spectrum. Therefore you cannot get all the tonal possibilities the drum is capable of. This also causes an "unnatural" beater rebound.

As your abilities to tune get better you will start to realize the negative side of these particular heads. It's not that they are per say a bad product but they exploit a poor skilllset in tuning capabilities in drummers and soundtechs. The same folk whom like these heads are the same ones whom choke the drums out with huge pillows (some muffling is sometimes needed in a drum but some folk get ridiculous) and tape on every drum or have heads as loose and saggy as a hamuk (sp?).

On my snare I'm using Remo Ambassadors - Coated
Toms - Remo Suede Ambassador
Bass - Right now it's an Evans Emad..thinking about switching.

I have to co-sign..the Superkicks are some garbage. Don't last long at all. As far as tuning...HAHA forget it.

Yo Sabe, you do have a point bro!!  After I think about it, you don't really have to do any tuning to that head!!!  You just put it on and tighten the lugs (at any tension) and that's about it.  But I guess I'm still learning, because it still sounds good to me.  I do plan to try the Evans EMAD next.  Yo Sabe, like I told you in the PM....I used those Remo muffle rings on the toms and really didn't need to.  I know....I'll take my rebuking, go ahead  :'(

i think audio was just playing not really being disrespectful or actually insulting you-- but that is just how i saw it
any way\

i disagree:
i hate a bunch of stuff in a bass drum on a gig..... the only time i do that is at home when i need to muffle the drum a lot....my drums sing- all of them- you heard my toms... even the bass drum will give me a 1-2 second resonance if i let the beater bounce off of the head.... so you are right it is all about tuning.......and i do know how...................

i would agree that i can't use the superkick to make my bass drum sound like just a bigger tom- but that is not what i want= the BOOM is what i have always wanted from my base drum ever since i was young- i would hear bass drums and always want something different... i never got it until i tried the superkick about 5 years ago or so.
i HATE slap on a bass drum.. and always have even before i knew anything about tuning or heads as a kid.... i don't know........ it's just what i like
and the thing is- most places i play, people comment on how they love the sound of my bass drum........... it just sounds good and hits hard and gives good bottom whether you hit it hard or soft.................

that is my case for the SK2

No rebuke needed (... out of him I say you demons of drum inequity)  ;D

Try the EMAD 2. I haven't bought it yet but I demoed it and it is better than the single ply EMAD in my opinion. I think it is a bit livlier than the EMAD coated as well. J_Kay just bout it as well as JFUNKY.

Following the Leader??? isnt that the object of the game????

God Bless.

sorry i am sooo late on responding to this i forgot about it
anyway
No i don't think that is the object of the game-- as much as we talk about individuality, and developing your own style and voice... i am not going to change what i use just because someone says something else is the better choice " for the mature and learned" especially if i like how it sounds and other people do ase well.

WHAT GREAT PERSON/MUSICIAN/ ARTIST ETC. PLAYED followed the leader
yes they may have gleened knowledge from those more experienced and those who'd gone before but they did not yeild to the norm or supposed better course they stayed true to they're insticts and preferences, applying what they'd leard where they felt neccessary...................
i hope that was clear

Hope you know. I was kidding. I dont follow Leaders. I dont follow the crowd, one way of proving that, is I am a white boy on a GOSPEL site. I dont do the norm. However, I am not afraid to learn. If someone knows more than I do, then I am more than happy to apply that knowledge to my playing.

God Bless.
