Who in here has....
« on: May 22, 2006, 10:10:08 PM »
.....an ORGAN at home to practice on?  What kind?  Were do you go to get one for a good price?

I ask because one day I'd like to learn how to play the organ....but my concern is how would  I maintain a regular practice?  It not like I walk into people's homes and see a HAMMOND sitting there like I would a piano. It seems easy to buy portable keyboards to practice piano....but not so easy to when practicing organ.

Well I have a Leslie in my living room . . . but it's not hooked up . . . I just didnt have any other place to put it!

I would love to have an organ in my house to practice, but I live in an apartment and have to be mindful of noise.  And so the organs are in storage.

I have a small Technics. Yeah yeah yeah I know it's not a Hammond! But hey it works for practice. I won it on Ebay for $200 and it works well for dual manual practice, and then my XK2. My Technics has a hedphone jack so my neighbors aren't bothered.

I have a C3 in my basement with 710 Leslie and a JR-20 tone cabinet.  I love being able to practice whenever I get the itch.  I purchased mine locally from an old friend who used to play for my grandfather's old church.  He is an electrician by trade so he had already gone thru it and updated some of the tubes and rebuilt the power supply.  It was a real blessing cuz he didn't charge much for it. (He could have sold it for twice what he let me have it for.)

I recommend you just save up a few grand and then scour the classifieds daily until you find what you want.  Good ones are out there but you have to have your money ready or it will be gone!
I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth...
