Yo For all my Godly Orgainst
« on: May 27, 2006, 10:12:57 PM »
A Question if this is the organ room then why do people post chord thatare like the piano or keyboard version of chord Ex. Ab/FAC or Abmajb5/D_E_G(HI F) What ever happen to post ORGAN CHORDSl like this F/LH/RH

EX. In the Key of D

A/DF#GA/BDF#

F#/EBb/EbF#

B/EbAb/C#F#

E/DGAB/DF#B

E/DGAB/F#BD

E/DGAB/BDF#

see this way the advance players as well as the begginers can understand it without having a dictionary, encyclopedia, and their highschool trig book. and  everyone is able to play it in the worship service the next day or that Sunday. ;D So can we try to post ORGAN CHORDS with a footbass  that is different from your left and right hand ;D

True.  You could just take the bottom note and play it in tha bass, but what about chords where the bass is in the foot and NOT in the left hand?

Also, AM7 doesn't tels me what kind of chord it is, but it DOESN'T telll me what inversion to play it in.   :-\

makes more sense to spell it out.

True.  You could just take the bottom note and play it in tha bass,
yeah but alot of organ chords have different note than the FOOT PEADAL note in the left hand.

Ex. F/EbGAbC/EbGBb
you see how the last note in the left hand and the foot pedal note are totally different so your foot most of the time will be different than your bottom note in your hand. Well this is if your not wack on the ORGAN

You didn't read my next Sentence.  I said:

i like when other people write out the chords.  i could tell half of you to play an Eb minor 11th and i'll bet there would be 15 to 20 different posts on how everyone actually 'voices' it.  that's what's great about the diversity and different styles on this site.  it's the same 88 black and white keys but there are soooo many ways to make them work. i think one thing that wouldn't hurt once in a while, is if you have an mp3 player or a microphone on your computer is to maybe put a clip of what you're playing so people can get a sense of your timing and hear how everything plays out.
Sorry if the band seems too loud tonight.  Now go tear Psalms 150 from your bible and sit down. ;-)

you call some of the chords piano chords but every organist is different

I play four note and five note chords in my left hand which allows me to play choir voicings and solo 1-2-1- harmony pentatonics double the chords in my right hand

if i post chords and you only see one hand dont assume it is a piano chord

there are so many things to do against the chord

play the melody double the chord whatever
reaarrange the chord in the right hand
play one or two notes from the chord and put it in your right hand
appegiate the chord on certaing sections
play bass with your left hand

the list goes on
listing the basic chord gives you the ability to take the chords and expand it to fit your style of playing

depending on what setting you use the type of organ the condition of the organ the way you finesse the chord etc

I personally feel once you have the basic song and bass motion and chord quality it is now time for you to sit at your organ and work out how you want to play between your two hands

I cant believe if Jomo is as good as he says he is that he would have any problem translating a piano chord into a usable organ voicing with no problem

i am not a great organist and i can turn any chord into aphat organ voicing in less then 5 seconds

once you have the basic voicing you have to get on that instrument and experiment what sounds best to your ear

i studied with melivin Crispell and there are some times when he will play using left hand bass throughout the whole song if he posted that it would look like (piano chords)

charles minor plays very small chords in his left hand sometimes only two notes

John will play four notes often in his left hand which is what i try to do when i play

although john has much phatter right hand voicings then i do.

so my advice is learn how to translate any chord onto your instrument and stop looking for people to spell everything out for you

i want to teach you to fish so you can eat for a life time

some of you may be beginners so now is the time to get some good habits
having somebody spoon feed you is a bad habit

just because it is easier for you doesent make it better for you

To be or not to be that is the question you anwer when you pray practice and read your word

I agree, if you are given the bass note and the chord you SHOULD be able to figure out everything else to make it an organ chord.  Don't limit yourself take the guidelines given in a chord and expand them to the point that a song becomes your own creation.
