Kirk Franklin Concert
« on: May 26, 2006, 02:31:07 PM »
Just went to Kirk Franklin's Hero Tour concert.  It was fun but I thought the sound set up would be better for the bass player.  They had the kick drum mic'd so loud.  That in combination with the bass made it hard to enjoy from a bass player's perspective.  It made me realize that just as important as your abilities are, having a good sound means just as much to some degree.   You might keep it in the pocket all day and never step out, but folks will be talking about you afterwards if you can develop a good and unique sound.  Becuase I am sure that Kirk's bass player can burn, but with that setup he sounded fair. I am currently in the sound process.  I have ordered a american deluxe p bass and now I am trying to find a good amp to get a good sound.  Yall feel me?

I will never understand why some sound techs bury the bass beneath the kick drum.  maybe they want to show off the bass bins, but it's just boring to listen to if you have a decent bass player.  I usually try and have a conversation with the sound tech before we play so I can let him know what I'm trying to accomplish.

To me Kirk Franklin is a Rapper. Good with words. That's why you heard the loud kick drum. I saw him on TV with the Gospel Legends, what a shame that was.
He can't even hold a tune or sing. Just Rap and Conduct.

I beg to differ with you on that last one bro. Kirk is more talented that jst a "rapper" every song he come out with is a hit (who sells more records than any gospel artisit) and you can bet that he wrote the lyrics, produced , and probably played on the majority of them. That is why kirk is who he is not just because he can work the crowd but he (under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost) is the one who created everything that you hear.

He got the talent of a rapper, who used old school beats in his music.

Tell me one song Kirk Franklin song or played any instrument on?

check out those credits. On all of them he is listed as producer which means that he created "x" amount of songs on the album and had something to do with the arrangement. He is listed as the piano player on some of them also...I thought you went to the concert, I know at the one that I went to this year he played a couple of songs. And as for singing, I never said that he was the best singer bc we all know he's not, but he did sing "Momma's Song" on Whatch Lookin For and "Without you" on Hero which I will say that he "pulled off" with some help...

Dude you obviosly have never seen Kirk perform brighter day or any of his hits. He's playing board on most of them in a live setting.
I must fight with my praise.

I agree.  Kirk is a great pianist and an annointed producer/writer.  Like it or not, his music transcends generational gaps better than anyone else out there.  He can go from playing "SIlver & Gold" to "It's Raining" to "Brighter Day" and hit 3 different demographic groups with each song.

His singing voice isn't much to talk about but you have to admit that the man knows how to use his God given gifts to the limit.

God Bless,
-J
