The twirls were way out of order, straight flesh. Drummer was not in the moment of worship he was just playing at the song.... goin through the motions. Some of the sixteenth fills were too fast as were the cymbal accents. I felt the worship song was out of pocket in that it needed to be more behind the beat not in front. THe bass is playing the full note values so hits have to sit with his notes and in the clip they weren't. Potential is there though... more time need ed working on the groove/pocket and respecting the time and space are needed and less on the twirls... practice the Billy Ward principles of embodying the subdivisions. Second song (praise song) was better... It still felt like the drummer was a bit absent from the moment.

Lay back a lil bit more... make more flowing open movements to balance out the time/space ration and settle in the groove better is all. The arc system that Freddie Gruber taught Weckl and Neil Peirt.

Twirls during Praise & Worship?

Hehehe...

Now that's a first.

He really seem disinterested, frankly. I know many musicians who feel the need to add a little something extra, to keep themselves interested in playing the song...

he just seemed like he was trying to get his and not flow with worship....but hey..I've done that in the past but not within the past three to four years...since I've been playing for GOD and not myself....

I dont know about being too busy. I agree with Sabe. Stick twirls were way out of line for Praise and Worship. and above all, you can tell by his playing and demeanor, he was not into it! thats what will kill a drummer during worship. You can feel their playing...didnt feel his at all.

God Bless.

That's my point of view too. Maybe that's why he's there, no other minister would tolerate that type of mannerism. Respect the craft. Peace…

I'onno... Wasn't feelin it.

He looked like he was ready to go home.
Twirlin?!?!? My pastor woulda beat me with them sticks.
I can't stand to see drummers who look like they would rather be somewhere else... During P&W, I am in it 150%...  He was about 10% init... Not a good thing.

As usual, I am with you Sabe. Wisdom is power.

Holla.

Hey.... I know this guy... sort of...
He's on my friends list on MySpace and I've actually talked with him a couple times....
I agree he was playing up to the camera a little too much...I think he has a little more pocket on this video.

But in regards the HeZekaih Battle Song.... I think the whole song was a little too fast.

It's a shame that he wasn't into it, because I bet there are about 5 people in his church alone that would love to be on that throne.  Sorry, but this hits too close to home for me. :-\ >:(

Dude did you notice he was whhhhhhhiiiiiiiittttteeeee!!! That's why I posted. Not because of his great drumming skills or whether praise and worship was groovin or whether his heart posture and attitude was right. ITS BECAUSE HE DOESN'T SOUND WHITE! I mean E-R posts vids of great white drummers that are incredible but none of them sound gospel like this white kid. I thought it was cool that he had alittle black groooooooooooove.

Over annalitical to the fullist people.

This had a cool little groove to it. I liked this one better. Very nice.

I see where you are going with that. He does have that flavor... Thats the first thing I noticed... My co worker, was like oh, who is light skinned cat on the kit... I almost fell out of my chair... lol... But I see what you are saying. Being that I am black, my exboyfriend is white, and no matter what, when he tried to play for my church, he didnt have the black baptist thing at all...  But, I did the same thing at his church... I was too baptist (slow), and they sang a lot of our songs but more of a Christian sounding type of groove.

But this second clip was much better. I liked it.

Yeah that second clip was definitely on point.

I'm not sure that he's fully "White" but regardless... that boy got the gospel feel. Infact I was really feeling their keys man. Brother got skills.

He was cool.  He looked like he was thinking about where he'd rather be....  Thats not cool at ANY time behind the kit, ESPECIALLY at church!!
